FOREST CITY -- Evelyn M. Waggener, age 91 of Forest City, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 3, at 2:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Wayne Hagen officiating. Private family inurnment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. There will be no visitation.
Evelyn Marguerite Waggener was born in Forest City, Iowa on November 12, 1915, the daughter of Joseph and Esther (Lemme) Charlson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church and received her education in rural school near her home.
On December 8, 1936, she was married to Leslie Sorensen at the Scandinavian Methodist Church in Forest City. The couple farmed north of Forest City for many years until Leslie's death on January 6, 1981.
Evelyn married Willard Waggener on September 10, 1982. The couple divided their time between Forest City and Mesa, Arizona. Evelyn was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, the Immanuel Lutheran Church Women, a member of the Leland Senior Citizens Club and an associate member of the Victory Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona. She was an excellent seamstress and continued knitting and crocheting her whole life. Willard passed away in 1990.
From that time, Evelyn made her home in Forest City until entering the Concord Care Center in Garner in 2002. She passed away at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa on Wednesday, June 27, 2007.
Evelyn is survived by a daughter and her husband, JoAnn and James Schloe of Hugo, MN and two grandsons: Timothy (Jennifer) Schloe of Vadnais Heights, MN and Mark (Mollie) Schloe of Apple Valley, MN and two great-granddaughters, Patricia & Catherine.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and husbands Leslie and Willard.
