Glen W. Wagoner age 96 of Maquoketa Iowa died on Friday evening October 32008.0 at the Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa Iowa.


A private family graveside service celebrating Glen’s life will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday October 82008.0 from the Hickory Grove Cemetery rural Monmouth Iowa.  Rev. Gerald Gjerde from the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa will officiate. A public visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M. on Tuesday October 72008.0 from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa Iowa.


Glen W. Wagoner was born on August 23 1912 in Presho South Dakota to William Wagoner and Gertrude (DeMoss) Wagoner. He was educated in Monmouth Schools and due to an injury was unable to enter the military however he was able to help in other ways by participating in CCC camps. He married Neda F. Widel on February 4 1945 in Maquoketa Iowa.


Glen had worked in heavy construction building roads airports farm ponds and farm terracing. He also was a heavy duty mechanic and a certified welder. He had served as the superintendent of the Public Works Department in Maquoketa for several years and most notably helped Don Schwenker in the building of Leisure Lake.


Glen was a boxer in his early years and was known as the “Maquoketa Kid”. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa loved river fishing hunting and trapping small game old western movies animals and nature. He also loved baseball and was a loyal and faithful fan of the Chicago Cubs. He was known by his family as an intelligent gentle loving and caring man who was honest and had high standards. He especially loved his children and grandchildren.


Glen is survived by: his wife- Neda F. Wagoner of Maquoketa IA; children- Dr. Wayne (Nancy) Wagoner of Maquoketa IA Rebecca (Ronald) Sipes of Davenport IA & Jane (Dr. Daryl) Sas of Beaver Falls PA; 8 grandchildren 2 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law- Waive Bailey of Maquoketa IA; & 2 brothers-in-law- Arthur Wheatley of Marion IA & Dana Widel of Maquoketa IA. He was preceded in death by his parents 2 brothers 1 sister & twin grandchildren.


A Glen W. Wagoner Memorial Fund has been established.
