Mavis Katherine (Johnson) Haugen was born on March 25, 1922, in Christiania Township, Jackson County, Minnesota, to Gustav and Hannah (Eidem) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Mavis attended rural elementary schools in the Bergen and Windom area and graduated from Windom High School in 1941.

During her marriage, Mavis worked as a corn detassling supervisor and census taker. Leonard and Mavis celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2008 while living at the Maples in Springfield.

Mavis was active in the Bethany Lutheran Church Cradle Roll and Ladies Aid, as well as the Jeffers Methodist Church Ladies Aid and Sunday school. She was a hard working farm wife who spent many hours cooking and working along side Leonard.

Mavis passed away on Friday evening, January 2, 2009, at the Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato at the age of 86.

Tributes

Brad Siefkes, Friend of the Family wrote on Jan 6, 2009:

"My mother, Adonna Evers, emailed me to let me know of your mother's passing. I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy to each of you. I have fond memories of your mother and family while growing up in rural MN. The last time I saw her was in Seattle when your parents stopped in to see a relative of yours. He worked for the post office there and we worked in the same building. She had the same smile I always remembered. And now, she is remembered even here from Hawai`i. My sincerest sympathy and warmest aloha to each of you."
