Vera Langland
August 16, 1926 - February 20, 2013

Vera M. Langland was born on August 16, 1926, in Worthington, Minnesota to the late Henry and Sigrid (Beck) Soltau. She was baptized in Wortington and later confirmed at the First United Methodist Church in Windom. Vera received her education in the Windom Public Schools; graduating in the Class of 1944.

On June 7, 1948, Vera was united in marriage to Kenneth Langland at the First United Methodist Church in Windom. This union was blessed with one daughter and one son, Kay and Bruce. Through the years, Vera worked at Olson Pharmacy in Windom and then after high school, she worked at the Chrysler-Plymouth car dealership in Windom for seven years. She then was a teller at the Windom Federal Savings and Loan before working in the office at the Cottonwood County Highway Department for eighteen years; retiring on October 31, 1992. After retiring, Vera continued to live in Windom. Ken passed away on July 4, 2008. She remained in Windom until March of 2011 when she broke her hip and moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to be near her daughter. She was then diagnosed with bone cancer and received treatment for it. Vera was living with her daughter until she fell on November 18, 2012, and then was moved into the Southridge Healthcare Center in Sioux Falls where she passed away on February 20, 2013, at the age of 86 years.

Vera was a longtime, dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church in Windom where she was a member of the Weslyn Service Guild and helped count money at the church for several years before retiring in 2010. She also enjoyed gardening, doing volunteer work at the church, knitting, quilting, traveling with Ken and Bruce, and most of all, she loved spending time with her grandsons and great-grandchildren.

Vera is survived by her one daughter, Kay Galer (Robert) of Sioux Falls, SD; three grandsons, Michael Galer (Melissa) of Sioux Falls, SD; Matthew Galer (Heidi) of Sioux Falls, SD; Ryan Galer of Omaha, NE; three great-grandsons, Jacob Roth, Logan Galer, and Riley Galer one great-granddaughter, Lauren Galer; one brother, Vern Soltau of Windom two brother-in-laws, Chuck Langland (Sandy) of Windom; Sterling Bigbee of Sonora, California; and many more relatives to numerous to mention.

Vera is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Langland; one son, Bruce Langland; and one sister, Betty Bigbee.
