IOWA CITY, Iowa--Gary "Mike" Michael Smothers, 58, of Iowa City, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Iowa City Rehabilitation and Care Center in Iowa City.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013, at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013, at the funeral home.
Mike was born on April 27, 1954, in Iowa City, the son of Gary and Sue Abrams Smothers. He was a graduate of Iowa City High School, class of 1972. In 1974, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Horrabin, and they later divorced.
Mike worked for Smothers' Insurance as an insurance agent, and later Evan's Distributing. He enjoyed dancing, listening to country music, talking with friends, and was a hard worker. Mike had a great personality, and loved to laugh.
He will be deeply missed by his daughters, Megan Dotson and husband, Jeremy, of Lone Tree, and Corey King and husband, Joey, of Boise, Idaho; two grandchildren, Jacob and Jenna Dotson of Lone Tree; his parents, Gary and Sue Smothers of Lone Tree; three siblings, Gale Koven and husband, Robert, of Marietta, Georgia, Gwen Thompson and husband, Ward, of San Diego, California, and Bart Smothers and wife, Connie, of Iowa City; and two nephews, Matt Koven of New York, and Bobby Koven of Atlanta, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
