DAVENPORT, Iowa--Donald J Devore, 63, passed away on May 6, 2013, at Genesis East in Davenport, Iowa.
Informal Celebration of Life will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 9 2013, at the South End Park in Wapello, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association his honor.
The Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello is providing the care and arrangements for Don Devore.
Don was born on March 5, 1950, in Muscatine, to George and Ethel Devore. During his adolescence there were always fun times with siblings, cousins and friends. He graduated from Wapello High School in 1968.
One year later he married Patricia McClure in Morning Sun and they were married for 28 years.
Don and Patty moved to the Muscatine area where he completed his AA in Business Administration. From there they moved to the Cedar Falls area where Don was a Black Hawk Deputy Sheriff before starting his career with John Deere. While working he completed his BA and Master's Degree at the University of Northern Iowa.
Don and Patty relocated to Reinbeck and raised their four children; Tricia, Andrea, Jennifer and Donovan. Don was an active member of the United Church of Christ. He made special efforts to support all of his children's activities.
He retired in 2001 from John Deere after 29 years. During his tenure he worked primarily at the Foundry as a Supervisor and Buyer. After retirement, Don returned to his hometown of Wapello.
During his life Don enjoyed hunting with his family, photography, historical collections, and avidly researching Civil War and World War II history and family genealogy. He also loved to visit and spoil all seven of his grandchildren, and was excited to learn he had a new grandchild on the way.
Don is survived by his mother, Ethel Devore; three daughters, Tricia McCabe and husband, Bryan, Andrea Kreitner and husband, Greg, and Jennifer Metcalf and husband, Brian; one son, Donovan Devore and wife, Andrea; grandchildren, Seth, Ella, Grace, Reed, Emmett, George and Michael; significant other, Betty Booker; two brothers, Dan Devore and Scott Devore and wife, Sandy; and a sister, Patricia Devore.
Don was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Terry.
