"I met Amit and Tejal when we were very young, in Mauritius. I was five and he was eight. Amit was a great friend and a lot of fun to be around with. My condolences to his family. "
Amit Harivadan Talati, 43 of Coconut Creek, Florida, passed away on May 7, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Rupal, two children Aarohi and Arjun, parents in India and sister's family in the U.S.
He was born in Ahmedabad, India on July 15, 1969. He spent his formative years in Mauritius. A graduate of Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, India in Aeronautical Engineering, he started his career working in England and then Australia with Citicorp. Then he moved to Florida, which was his home for 17 years.
Amit reached out to friends, family and strangers alike through his vision, hard work and leadership in the community. Above all, he was one of the most loving and involved dads of his generation. He inculcated love for the music and learning in both his children and whomever he touched. He made himself available to anyone in need and all whom he could inspire.
Amit was an innate thinker as well as doer. Descartes' disciple, he often joked: "I think therefore I am".
He left us with an ever-expanding legacy of love and nonchalant way of living life. He will be greatly missed.
"I met Amit and Tejal when we were very young, in Mauritius. I was five and he was eight. Amit was a great friend and a lot of fun to be around with. My condolences to his family. "
"Amit, or Tull as some of us liked to call him, always made me smile - with his deep-belly laughter, his warmth, his idiosyncrasies. I will remember him affectionately for his courage, his tenacity, his humanity. May God give his family the strength to carry on through these next few months - He took him from us too soon. "
"Amit was a gentle, passionate human being who loved life. My earliest memories of him when I met him in the IIT hostel was of him listening to music in the common area late at nights. He would spend a lot of time introspecting in this moment of solace and personal solitude. His repeated favorite song then was - "Tujhse Naraaz Nahin Zindagi" (Masoom) which I too enjoyed immensely.
He was a thinker, a spiritual person, an ideologue and a philosopher to me in some regards. I always thought that he would be treading a different path in life than many of us. Somehow, he seems to have done that in his death...
It is hard to still believe that he is not amongst us anymore. In parting yet another song comes to my mind - "Zindagi Ke Safar Mein" (Aap Ki Kasam) and a stanza sticks to my heart -
Phool khilte hain, log milte hain
Phool khilte hain, log milte hain magar
Patjhad main jo phool, murjha jate hain
Woh baharon ke aane se khilte nahin
Kuchh log ek roz jo bichad jate hain
Woh hazaron ke aane se milte nahin
Umr bhar chahe koi pukara kare unka naam
Woh phir nahin aate,
Woh phir nahin aate
RIP amongst the stars.. and all the strength to Arjun and Aarohi to carry your legacy here in your absence. "
"Amit was a great friend, full of energy and ideas. He was very creative and philosophical. I have so many memories from college times that won't be possible to put everything here. It is difficult to imagine that he is no longer with us but will always be there in our memories and prayers. May God give strength to the family to move through this difficult phase in their life. We will miss you Amit!"

"I met Amit when I was serving as Club Voice's Area Governor and immediately recognized him as a true caring leader and also a gentleman.. I heard that we are Spiritual Beings having a Human Experience and Amit sure had an extraordinary experience serving among us Toastmasters, having fun and making friends. May our Dear Friend Distinguished Toastmaster Amit Talati rest in the peace of the Lord! "
"It was once said at a service, "when you leave the world, you should have given back more than you took." This was definitely Amit, he has done seva in the entire community, Indian and non-Indian. While he was the Area Governor at Tostmasters, he insisted I compete for an area competition and I was going to be the most amateur speaker. He convinced me and when I did...won the first prize. Was it not for his motivation and faith in me I was have never conquered that fear. He has given so much....he is definitely going to a a better place. He always greets you with a big, genuine smile.Thinking of you Rupal, the children and mum. "
