David Frank Steckelberg, age 66, of Lovilia died on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born on September 24, 1946 in Carroll, IA to Vernon and Darlene (Atkins) Steckelberg.
David graduated from Manilla High School, class of 1964. He then received his BS in Chemistry, and his Masters in Marine Biology from Utah State University. He married Dixie Lee Kendall on May 26, 1979. She later passed away on December 18, 2003. He served eight years in the United States Air Force. He worked as a chemist for Ajinomoto, retiring in 2010.
He was a true outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing. He was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, and was a wine enthusiast.
He is survived by his siblings, Charlene Shroeder of Greenwood, DE. and Tim (Janene) Steckelberg of Missouri Valley, IA, step-children, Clyde Williams and Tina Stafford of Albia, Brian (Michelle) Williams of Albia, Lynn Anne (Andrew) Des Planque of Lovilia, two nieces, Carman (Joel) Harris of Missouri Valley, IA, Denise Shroeder of Austin, TX, one nephew, Gary (Tina) Shroeder of Las Vegas, NV, and great nieces also survive David. He is preceded in death by his Parents, wife, Dixie, and brother-in-law, Jim Shroeder.
There will be a private family burial of cremated remains in Marysville Cemetery on Monday, June 17, 2013.
