PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Iowa - Lois V. Chalupa, 93, of Pleasant Prairie, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2013 at her home with her children by her side.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Runge Mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her family for Lois's favorite charities.

Lois was born on August 19, 1919, at the Dean home in Schuyler County, Missouri, the sixth child born to Leo and Mabel Snowbarger Dean. Lois was the oldest descendant of Henry Clay Dean. She graduated from Lancaster Missouri High School in 1939.

She was united in marriage to Phillip G. "Lefty" Chalupa on November 24, 1939, at the Berea Church in Davenport; he preceded her in death on April 26, 1981.

Together they owned and operated Chalupa Bros. Construction Co. She was a lifetime member of the Rebels Cove Historical Society and a former member of the Muscatine Women of the Moose and Wakonsa Country Club in rural Durant.

She enjoyed golfing, fishing and quilting and especially loved to cook and bake. She will always be remembered by her family for Christmas Eve in her home, apple pies and Clinton cookies. She was very proud of her heritage and her children and their families.

Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Phillip Chalupa and wife, Mary, and Mark Chalupa and wife, Tracy; daughters, Patricia Chalupa and Mary Miller and husband, Kenny; 10 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; a special friend, Linda Miller; brothers, Tom Dean and wife, Betty, and Vernon Dean and wife, Sally; sisters, Dorothy Starrett and husband, Richard, Joyce Reynolds, Ruth Sidwell, and Joan Webster; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lefty; sisters, Mary Ballew, Ethel Clark, Bonnie Jackson, Lena Mae Dean, Elizabeth Dean and Kate Offermann; brothers, Ed, David, Warren, Charles and Bill Dean; and a great granddaughter, Sarah Sparks.
