Richard Bell wrote on Nov 11, 2013:

"If we had been a band of merry men, then he would have been our Robin Hood. If we had been knights of the table round, then he would have been our Arthur. Richard Flickinger was one of a kind. A good guy. A smart guy. A very decent guy. And for those of us in Greenfield's class of 1975, he seemed to be our leader. One of my best friends. He had a unique sense of humor, a good grasp of the absurd. He used to tell me I was too serious. He was right. My first concert was riding with Flick and bunch of guys to see Chicago, in Des Moines, August of 1973. I introduced him to Monty Python and he introduced me to Led Zeppelin. I threw a lot of parties in my basement my senior year in high school, and the biggest one, by far, was for Flick's 18th birthday, December 26, 1974. We were roommates our freshman year at Iowa State University. Those were the days. Somewhere, I have a box of old Super 8 movies, there's footage of Flick making goofy faces for the camera, in the bleachers at some event. I need to go through it and see what's there. I know there will be footage of Flick that I haven't seen in decades. Long lost memories waiting to be resurrected. It's hard to believe he's gone, I've known him since third grade. He will be missed, always. "

Bill Raasch wrote on Nov 8, 2013:

"I was Richard's Jr. High science teacher and football coach. He was always dedicated to do the best he could whether in the classroom or on the field. He was just a great person with a great personality. My deepest regards to all his family. Bill Raasch"

"So sorry to hear of the loss of Rich. I worked at the vet clinic in HS when he first started and he was a great influence on me. I went and became a vet tech and lost touch with him over the years. I did have a chance a few years ago to be down in Hampton and stopped by the clinic - had a very nice conversation with him. I have spent the day kind of shocked - but the best memory that will always stick in my mind is with Rich, Heather Hemmes and myself- doing the wild cow milking contest at the fair back in the late 80s.. Again- my sympathies to your family. Rich will be missed by many"

"This is really sad news. Flick was a good friend of mine at ISU. We, and the rest of the Haber House gang, had a lot of fun together. He was an excellent dorm hallway "body surfer". I was always so impressed that he got into, and graduated from, vet school. Last time I saw him was in 1982 when he came out to visit me in San Diego. I pray his soul will rest in peace forever. The obituary left out the time we were partying and then we...oh, never mind... Love, Fish "
