Alice Marie Yancey
August 17, 1937 - November 20, 2013

Madison - Ms. Alice Marie Yancey, age 76, died Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 6:50 a.m. at Kindred Nursing Home surrounded by her family. Ms. Yancey was born August 17, 1937, in Carthage, Arkansas. Alice, or "Mother Yancey" as many affectionately called her, was a Madison resident for over 30 years. She married Theodore Yancey on February 11, 1974. Alice was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and devoted member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church of Madison. She worked at a nursing home for over 13 years. Her caring nature extended to ministering to the needs of children, the elderly and anyone in need in her community. A strong believer in family and faith, she enjoyed fellowshipping with her church community, spending time with her family, friends and especially her dear friend, Ms. Louise Dunlap and family. A creative spirit, she had a love for cooking, gardening, music and fashion often making outfits for her children, friends and family whom adored her artistic talents.
Alice is survived by four daughters Ruby Lewis (Fred Lewis, Jr.), Mattie McDaniel, Brenna (Charles) Chestnut of Milwaukee, WI, and Alice "Peaches" (Leroy) McDaniel of Madison, WI; her four sons Keith McDaniel of Janesville, WI, Timothy (Kristine) Yancey of San Diego, CA, Theodore (Danielle) Yancey and LaCouir (Shannel) Yancey of Verona, WI, and stepdaughter Katherine Pedracine of Madison, WI; three sisters Caroline Thrower of Las Vegas, NV, Johnnie Reed of Milwaukee, WI and Shirley Fort Lee (Rev. Lorenzo Lee) of Fort Smith Arkansas; one brother John Clayborn Thrower (Estelle Thrower) of Milwaukee, WI; and 24 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband Mr. Theodore Yancey, mother Mary Louise Thrower and father Chester Thrower Jr.; brothers Homer Atkins Thrower, MacArthur Thrower, Maurice Thrower, Curtis Thrower, Chester Thrower Jr., James Thrower; sister Mildred Preston, and grandson Fred "Pappy" Lewis III.
The Family would like to thank the Mt. Zion Baptist church family for all their prayers, telephone calls, visits & cards during this time of bereavement. We must give a very special thank you to Comfort Keepers and Ms. Lillie for taking care of mom while she was still living at home. We would also like to thank Kindred Care, Middleton Village Nursing home & staff for all your loving care of our mother over the last several months. We would specifically like to thank the 2nd and 3rd shift staff for their dedication to making sure mom was always comfortable and well taken care of.
A funeral service will be held at MT. ZION BAPTIST CHURCH, 2019 Fisher St., Madison, on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Melva Bishop-Hewing presiding. A visitation will be held at church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be held on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Always a lady and always positive, she reminded me to love unconditionally and to be patient with others that didn't know how to return the favor. "Mother Yancey was a very close and precious friend to my Mother Willia B. Taylor who moved to Madison Wisconsin November 1996. They spent a lot of time with each other and loved one another dearly.
