Harold A. Schroder
ILLINOIS CITY, Illinois--Harold A. Schroder, 82, of Illinois City, died Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center, Silvis.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island.
Visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Illinois City Volunteer Fire Department.
Harold was born on July 20, 1931, in Rock Island, a son of Arthur and Rosella Kelly Schroder. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1950.
He married Jacqueline "Jackie" Vedell on January 6, 1951, in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on December 21, 1991. Harold later married Katherine "Katie" Wise on January 9, 1993. She preceded him in death on July 21, 2010.
Harold worked for Borden's Dairy, Rock Island and Illini Beef, Joslin. He retired in 1995 as maintenance supervisor at the Davenport Medical Center. Although Harold's working career was centered in the maintenance field, he loved farming his place in Illinois City. He supported the Illinois City Volunteer Fire Department and had served as the Drury Township Supervisor for 16 years.
He enjoyed attending auctions, collecting John Deere and dairy memorabilia, restoring antique farm equipment and in earlier years hunting and fishing. Harold's greatest love was for his family; he attended all of his children's and grandchildren's activities and enjoyed the time he spent with them, and now his great-grandchildren too.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Scott Bowser of Rock Island and Cheryl and Jerry Lowe of Taylor Ridge; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Schroder of Tucson, Arizona; stepchildren, Rick and Kim Miers, Rene' Snow, Lisa and Jack Lange, Sam and Greg Meiresonne, Mike and Loretta Miers, Doug and Michelle Miers, Tim Miers, Sharon Pettit, Charlie and Stephanie Wise, Mark and Denise Wise, and Marv and Gabby Wise; grandchildren, Amanda Schroder, Adam Lowe and wife, Sabrina, Nick Schroder and Brad Lowe; great-grandchildren, Tatum and Harper Lowe; 24 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ivan Schroder of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Melvin Schroder of DeWitt, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; a son, Mike Schroder; a brother, Jerry Schroder; and sisters, Loretta Jackson and Lois Gilmore.
