FOREST CITY - Donald O. Westerberg, 83, of Forest City died Friday, November 29, 2013 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, December 3rd at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Rod Hopp officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Travis Beck. Casket bearers will be Scott Westerberg, Ross Ennen, Matt Swanson, Jay Westerberg and Lynn Moklestad. Inurnment will be in Oakland Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Forest City Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Monday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Donald Owen Westerberg, the son of Rollie and Ruth (Tweeten) Westerberg, was born December 2, 1929 in Forest City. He attended the rural schools of Ellington Township in Hancock County and graduated from Forest City High School. Don served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On February 27, 1955 he married Edell Nelson at Clear Lake. He farmed southeast of Forest City until retiring at the age of 80. Don also drove truck for the Forest City Co-op for a few years. He enjoyed raising Charolais cattle, fixing up and driving Model T Ford's with Gary Ludwig and Dick Thompson and volunteering countless hours at Heritage Park. Don also enjoyed watching Forest City Indian and Iowa Hawkeye sporting events.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, served on the Ellington Township Cemetery Board and was on the Board of Directors at the Forest City Co-op.
Don is survived by his three children, Tim (Gayle) Westerberg of Dillon, CO, Deanna (Dave) Ennen of Forest City and Steve (Nancy) Westerberg of Oelwein; nine grandchildren, Wendy (Matt) Schwartz, Brian (Katie) Westerberg, Scott Westerberg, Ross Ennen, Rachel (Jeremy) Hurshman, Eric Westerberg, Mackenzie Jones, McCabe Jones and Amy Westerberg; four great-grandchildren, Sadie and Abbie Schwartz and Talley and Drue Westerberg; three sisters, Vivian (Amery) Charlson of Forest City, Margie (Don) Olson of Sun City, AZ and Muriel (Richard) Lowenberg of Anaheim, CA; a brother, Rodney (Rogene) Westerberg of Forest City; a sister-in-law, Garnett Westerberg of Amery, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edell, March 7, 2012; and a brother, Arden Westerberg.
