Geraldine "Gerry" O. Bichler
September 7, 1931 - December 11, 2013

Mrs. Geraldine Bichler, of 918 North Street in Belgium, passed away Wednesday morning, December 11, 2013 at Harbor Cove in Port Washington. She was 82 years old. Gerry was born in the Town of Port Washington on September 7, 1931, daughter of Frank and Lillian Wester Lanser. She attended school at Holy Cross Academy in the Town of Belgium and then began work at the Allen Edmonds shoe factory. On August 20, 1955, Gerry was united in marriage with Clemens "Clem" Bichler at St. Mary Catholic Church, Lake Church. The couple settled in Belgium and raised their family. Mrs. Bichler was a member of Divine Savior Parish and had been a longtime member of the St. Mary Choir and the Christian Women's group, as well as a member of the Belgium American Legion Auxiliary and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Gerry loved gardening, baking (chocolate chip cookies and fresh bread were among her specialties) and taking care of her family and grandchildren. She was a good sheepshead player and took pleasure in keeping a daily dairy. Mrs. Bichler is survived by her husband Clem and their 6 children: Dean (Linda) Bichler of Crystal Lake, IL, Annie (James) Noster of Belgium, Roy (Gerri) Bichler, also of Belgium, Kevin (Barb) Bichler of Port Washington, Bryan (Katie) Bichler and Mark (Lori) Bichler, both of Random Lake. Daughter, Mary Sue Bichler died on November 30, 1988. She is further survived by 15 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 1 sister Alice (the late Gene) Birenbaum of Belgium and sister-in-law Mary Ann Lanser of Port Washington, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by 4 brothers: Edmund, Norbert, Ambrose and Fr. Jerome Lanser and 6 sisters: Marjorie Lanser, Barbara Becker, Angie Jacoby, Armella Lorge, Rita Lauters and Sr. Martha Lanser. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday, December 16th at Divine Savior, Holy Cross Chapel (Hwy A & B) in the Town of Belgium. Father Jim Vojtik will preside. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary Cemetery, Lake Church. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, December 15 from 1-4PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home (171 N. Royal Ave.) in Belgium and Monday at church from 10-11AM. Memorials are suggested to the T-Baum Foundation or the MACC Fund. Online condolences may be left at www.eernissefuneralhome.com .
