ARMANDO RUIZ
MUSCATINE, Iowa - Armando Ruiz, 88, of Muscatine, died on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at his home.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2013, at St. Mathias Church. The Reverend Jason Crossen will officiate. Casket bearers will be Manuel Hernandez, John Hernandez, Jessie Hernandez, Elias Juan Villalpando, Joseph Villalpando, and Nick Pieper. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in Gannon Hall following the committal service.

Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the Church. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Armando was born on August 27, 1925, in Daily, Texas, the son of Jose and Maria Deleon Ruiz. His first marriage was to Carmen Castillo and she preceded him in death. He married Elvia Hurtado on April 15, 1987, at the Guadalupe Mission in Muscatine.

He retired from HJ Heinz Company.

He was a member of the Ss. Mary and Mathias Parish.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Elvia Ruiz of Muscatine; one son, Ricardo Ruiz of Texas; three daughters, Margie Pieper and husband, Nick, and Elia Villalpando, all of Muscatine, and Amelia Borrego of Plainview, Texas; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one brother, Jessi Ruiz of Holyoke, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one son, Armando Ruiz Jr; four brothers, Frank, Jose, Amado, and Servando; and two sisters, Juanita Valenzuela and Josephia Carbajac.
