Carol passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Shenandoah Medical Center.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Shenandoah Public Library, The Shenandoah Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund or the Elm Heights Activity Fund.

Carol Ruth Allen was born on December 2, 1930 to Arthur and Vera Allen of rural Red Oak, IA. She spent her childhood there with her 3 siblings and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1948. Carol attended Simpson College and earned a teaching certificate and began teaching shortly afterwards at Shenandoah Schools in 1950.

She met Gordon Jones in the March of 1952 and married on June 21, 1953 at Climax, IA. Over the next few years they were blessed with two children, Roger and Denise, and later in life four grandchildren.

Education and learning were always very important to Carol. She began her career teaching and later substituted in the Shenandoah School system. She was a dedicated and active member of the Shenandoah United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She enjoyed having a cup of coffee with friends while playing Scrabble. Carol liked spending time outdoors walking on the school track near their home and neighborhood sidewalks. In her spare time she was fond of playing the piano, completing the daily crossword puzzle, watching Jeopardy, reading books, keeping a clean house, playing badminton with grandchildren, and gardening. She volunteered at many organizations in the community including United Methodist Women, Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Shenandoah School system. Her family took many vacations to the mountains in Colorado through the years.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Vera Allen, brothers Lee and Clint Allen. She is survived by her husband Gordon, children Roger and Sonya Jones of Shenandoah IA, Denise and Carl Jardon of Randolph, IA, sister Mary and Wayne Donohue of Red Oak, sister-in-law Carolyn (Clint) Allen of Red Oak, brother in-law and sister in-law Sheldon and Opal Jones of Coin, IA, grandchildren Cale Jones of Shenandoah, IA, Rachel Jones of Ft. Madison, IA, Ryan Jardon of Moline, IL, Rebecca Jardon of Ames, IA, and many other family and friends.
