"Bud was my best friend all through high school. We both were Viet Nam Veterans. We lost touch over the years but I have thought of him often and was thrilled that he had made contact with me through Classmates.com on 2/25/2014 and sadly he passed 2 days later. I have fond memories of growing up together in Trenton and time spent with his parents. He will be sorely missed by all of us who knew him. He was an awesome basketball player earning him the nickname "Goose" (after Goose Tatem of the Harlem Globe Trotters) Fitting that he lived on Meadowlark - after Meadowlark Lemon of the same team! I know your soul was in heaven an hour before the devil knew you were dead! Rest in peace old friend. Lord comfort his family."

"Bud (or Verlin Jr.) was a tremendous member of the Hamilton BTW Sharks basketball program for the past 10 years or so. His 3 point shot was a deadly accurate jump shot (not the typical set shot that most seniors shoot) and the bank was always open from every angle for his patented pull-up jumper. More importantly, Bud ALWAYS brought a kind and friendly spirit with him into the gym that endeared him to all of us and to the vast majority of our opponents as well. Bud loved his Pat and his children and grandchildren beyond belief and I really appreciate the family for sharing him with us all these years. His memorable smile and his genuine nature will never be forgotten. I will close with a quote by the wise philosopher and theologian, St. Augustine, that reminds me of Bud: "Where your pleasure is, there is your treasure; where your treasure is, there is your heart; where your heart is, there is your happiness." Godspeed my friend. "

"I first met Bud about 8-10 years ago at the Booker T. Washington community center in Hamilton and have enjoyed playing basketball with him for all of those years. But, more importantly, I'll always remember him as a wonderful man who loved his family. He will be sorely missed."

"I was re-introduced to Bud the day of his death as I played basketball with him that morning. Walt Philpot in introduced him to me as him as we had played against one another in 1965 as I played ball for Seven Mile. Bud seemed to be quite a gentleman and I regret I did not get to know him better but I sure he is in a better place. You have my deepest symphony!"

"I coached our girls T- ball with Bud. His coaching maturity taught me so much. The one thing that I was so impressed was watching his, I think, seventh grade basketball team. They had a 4 on 1 break, under the basket, and they passed it 5 times before they scored. WHAT UNSELFISH PLAY!! .......That is what BUD taught. .......the only thing that He knew was unselfish teamwork. GOD BLESS him and his family............"

"Although I only met Bud a couple times, I felt as if I knew a lot about him through the stories that Pat would tell us at work. I knew that he was a devoted family man and in turn his family loved him. I am sorry for his loss to Pat, Marcie, Erinn, Brendhan, Devon and Hank.."

"I will always remember Bud as one of the Brelsford Ave. basketball bunch. During our school years, especally high school, Bud would join me, Phil Adams, Steve Marshall, Terry Rosenfelder, Mike Hannah, and whoever else might come by, in an impromptu game of basketball. It was a good thing that our fathers installed lights for our backyard courts as our games would go on "forever." Bud was our genration's version of a leaper, he always pushed himself so he could jump higher than anyone, regardless of their size. I know that where he is now he is probably trying to get together a quick game. Bud was indeed a good friend. I can remember when he traveled to Fort Devens, Massachusetts to see me when I was stationed there. In those days that was not an easy trip and I truly appreciated his visit. Bud and his family, Verlin Sr. and Evelyn, were good friends of our family and they were quick to make us comfortable in their home. All of us will miss Bud and we pray that he is at peace now. "

"I will always remember Bud's wonderful sense of humor, and the way that he and Chuck (Wayne) would kid around. It was always entertaining and light hearted. He had great stories of his youth and the many adventures that defined it. He was such a good hearted soul, and I know The Lord is taking good care of him now. "
