In loving memory of

James "J.J." Jensen
March 6, 1964 - April 12, 2014

Jim "JJ" Jensen died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 12, 2014, which was the 28th anniversary of his first date with his wife Michelle.

Jim was born to Marvin and Ruth (Ganther) Jensen on March 6, 1964 and grew up in Necedah, WI. Jim attended Necedah Schools and was a gifted athlete in football, basketball and baseball. He loved a good competition. He made many lifelong friends during his childhood years and had plenty of stories and a few hair-raising adventures to share (but not with his children). Jim graduated in 1982 from Necedah High School and earned his bachelor's degree from UW-Stevens Point in 1986.

His love for sports carried over to playing on numerous softball teams into adulthood. True to his fun, loving personality, he made many more lifelong friends from the Mauston area and, in later years, from the Deerfield-Marshall area. He loved his position at short stop, but leg and ankle injuries from his youth forced him to stop playing recently. If he wasn't dirty from diving for a ball, he felt like he hadn't played the game.

It is through softball that he met Michelle (Richmond). They were married on October 3, 1992 and were blessed with three amazing children-Nick (18), Matt (16) and Maren (14) which he adored. Upon moving to Deerfield in 1996 to raise a family, Jim became a part of the community through the activities of his kids. He coached many basketball, baseball, and soccer teams through the years, coming home with hilarious stories about youth sports. He had great patience and tried to instill the lessons of hard work and humility in his players, especially his own children.

As his kids got older and started playing on school teams, he became a proud Deerfield Demon parent. He loved watching them play in all of their sports and will forever hold a place standing in front of the concession stand to watch football, sitting in the bleachers at half-court and along the first baseline chewing sunflower seeds. Jim awaited the Friday afternoon "coaches meetings" to discuss the week's sporting events. He was equally proud of his kids' talents in music. He watched many musicals but loved "Grease" the most and looked forward to solo ensemble each year. Jim was so proud of his kids and was a terrific father.

When he wasn't busy with school activities, Jim loved to escape to his second home, the "happy place" cabin in Tomahawk. There, he made great memories with family and friends snowmobiling, ice fishing, boating, jet skiing or just sitting on the deck watching the sunrise. There was always something that needed to be fixed which was his favorite excuse to go up north.

Jim cherished his family. He spoke to his parents daily, a little bit because he was a mom's boy but mainly because they were his role models in life, in his marriage and in his parenting. His greatest sorrow was the death of his dad in December. They are now together in heaven sitting on the deck or taking a snowmobile ride. Jim is further survived by his sister Rhonda Belmonte (husband John, children Alex, Greg, Andrea, Emily), brother Michael (wife Kim, children Max, Michael, Trey), sister Nancy Seebruck (husband Michael, children Michael, Samantha). As children, they had great times together camping in the Shasta throughout Wisconsin. This continued into adulthood when they bought motorhomes and traveled together around the country. Wherever Jim camped, it was sure to rain. As their kids grew older, he convinced them to take part in his adventures-the "journey" by snowmobile from Tomahawk to Necedah and the July 4th canoe portage and paddle trips on the Chippewa Flowage. Spending time together was most important, whether around the campfire or at his parents' kitchen table sharing morning coffee. The stories are endless and we will treasure those memories forever.

Jim is loved and survived by several uncles, aunts and cousins and many, many friends near and far. Jim was preceded in death by his father Marvin (December 28, 2013), aunt Eleanor Jensen (January 18, 2014), uncle Alan Ganther and his grandparents.

Jim was a great husband, father, son, brother and friend. His smile lit up our lives and his quiet kindness holds a dear place in our hearts. He was the man behind the scenes, doing the laundry, making the meals, baking buckets of cookies, stacking chairs in the gym, flipping hamburgers at the tailgate. Our loss is too painful for words, but our lives are so blessed because of the moments we had with him.

The family would like to thank the friends and strangers who assisted us Saturday evening. Special thanks to our dear friends Mark and Doreen Treuden, Kirk and Heidi Eilenfeldt, Roxanne Peterson, Jay Sugden, the ER staff at St. Mary's Hospital and Pastor Holly Slater.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church, Deerfield with Pastor Holly Slater presiding. Burial will be held at the church cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, April 18, 2014 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 4 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. There will be a community luncheon to celebrate Jim's life at Deerfield High School, 300 Simonson Blvd, Deerfield, WI at 12:30pm following the burial service. All are welcome.

He was my father, coach and friend. From his endless snowmobile trips, to my endless sporting events we were there for each other. I just hope that one day I can grow in to the man that he was. He is loved and missed dearly.

Dad never missed anything that we were in. It didn't matter if it was a basketball game or a choir concert. I knew I could always look up in the stands to see his smiling face or hear his encouraging voice. I will never forget how much he gave up for me. His endless love and warming personality will stick with me forever. It was a blessing to be with such a great father and friend for 18 years. I love you dad.

Whether it was taking a fishing trip to the cabin for a week or going to one of my basketball tournaments, Dad was always there, he always had something to say. After a hard day, he somehow put a smile on my face and those are the moments I won't forget. I love you to the moon and back Daddy.

You are the love of my life, my rock and stronghold. Your love and support was unconditional and allowed me to be me. You are the story of my life, 28 chapters of my book. I will write many more for you to read, but I already read the last few pages so I know how the story ends. All my love.

Memorials may be made to the Jim Jensen Memorial Fund at the Bank of Deerfield.

He was great at sales, but was even better at building trusting relationships with customers and coworkers. There wasn't a conversation we had that didn't include stories about his family. I am so terribly sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all. He will be missed."

"Dear Jensen Family: My heart goes out to all of you. I worked with Jim at Lawson and he was a wonderful guy to work with (I was the admin for Extended Services). Jim always had a joke for me and/or we would discuss politics and poke fun at each others' opinions. I just heard the news of Jim's passing today, and am greatly saddened. He will truly be missed by all, as he touched many lives. Your words and pictures express how much he meant to you and how missed he will be. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers and hope your memories console you."

"To the entire Jensen family - We're so sorry for your loss. We feel so blessed to have known Jim. He touched not only our lives but all of the community as well. With your sons being the same ages as our sons - this naturally brought us all closer together. Jim was a great guy to share so many of life's experiences together. With all of the sporting events, musicals, solo ensembles, Packer parties or even going up to Tomahawk - Jim was always a great guy to hang out with as our families grew closer. He coached both of our sons in baseball and soccer when they were young. Jim's love and patience for helping others was just a natural part of his character and will be greatly missed. Jim was always the first guy to step forward and lend a helping hand. How many baseball gloves did he re-string, how many kids did he coach, how many rides were given, how many times did he throw a comforting arm over their shoulder to calm or encourage... Jim demonstrated to our kids the kind of man that everyone could look up to. Michelle, Nick, Matt & Maren - you'll always be in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless & Take Care. - The Collar Family "

"Michelle, Nick, Matt, Maren, If words could help us ease the pain of the loss of a loving husband, father, son, teammate, co-worker then this stream of condolences from so many lives touched is surely a blessing to you all. Like so many others, I worked with Jim for many years at ADP. I had a mere 6 months on the job when his band of six came on board and in half that time he had outpaced me by miles. He was such a quick learner and I was mesmerized by that series of hand motions that his mother taught him to keep him from being too bored while he waited for others to catch up... and he was always waiting for the rest of us to catch up. He helped make us a "family" with his tireless dedication to quality, his wealth of knowledge, his willingness to share and his joyous sense of humor regarding the human condition! Jim's outlook on life and deep open love for both the family that raised him and the family that he and you created was his greatest joy! Our paths converged for a time and it was good... good times, good work, good memories... If you have read/heard the poem "The Dash" then you will understand when I say that Jim Jensen has one of the greatest "dashes" witnessed in my lifetime! May God continue to keep your family in His loving grace and give you peace! You will remain in our prayers just a Jim will remain in our hearts and memories! "

Over the years we worked together, i grew to care for the wonderful man he was. Our kids are very close in age, 19 and 15 and though i had girls, we had much to share and talk about! Family man, business man, inspiring human being. No words will help or heal the pain of grief. Jensen family - know that you do not mourn or grieve alone! What a blessing and comfort it must be knowing he is not alone but with his father whom i met on several occasions and knew how deeply Jim loved him! His life, love and legacy will carry on. "We send our deepest condolences and sympathy to you Michelle, Nick, Matt and Maren on the loss of your husband and Dad. I once heard that anyone can be a father but it takes a special man to be a Dad. And JJ fit that definition to a T. Having spent countless hours on the football, basketball and baseball fields/courts, classrooms, woods and fields and our parents homes I realize how much JJ's friendship and personality helped shape and develop my life for the better. He always strived to do his best and pushed me to do the same. The stories and memories of the times JJ, Terry and I spent together are way to numerous to print here but will be cherished forever in my heart. And the times discussing our families endeavors and successes will greatly be missed. I realize now that all of us are blessed to have just a few "Best" friends in our lives and I was privileged to have JJ as one of mine. The void in our hearts is immense, he will be greatly missed. God Bless."

"Michelle, Nick, Matt and Maren, I had the joy and honor to work with Jim for several years at ADP. We were both AE Supervisors and therefore saw eachother at our monthly meetings. We talked on the phone a lot also for scheduling purposes and usually ended up catching up on each other's families and what was going on in our individual lives. I have to say Jim was one of those wonderfully rare individuals who was very serious about getting the job done correct and to a high quality but also helped keep the stress level down when things could get tense. When we had out of town meetings together, he always helped to turn them into productive meetings with a lot of fun social time included. You know, "if you have to be away from family and home, you might as well make the most of it" feeling? Well, Jim always was the one who helped us "make the most of it". I remember him being the one to help organize a way to grill steak and potatoes and ice down the beverages instead of another boring meal in a resturant. He would be the one to organize a quick round of golf. He was a joy to work with and a fine team-member. I will always remember his smile. I will continue to keep all of you in my prayers. He will be missed!"

"Michelle, Nick, Matt and Maren, I worked with Jim at PeopleSoft for many years. I remember how crazy we all thought he was for driving from Deerfield, WI to Westchester, IL almost every day and on top of that always being one of the first ones to get to the office! He would say that it took 22 cups of coffee to get there! He was the heart and soul of the "PeopleSoft Implementation Lab team" and we all looked forward to any meeting we would have with him. He did whatever it took to make things work and always with such a sense of humor. He talked about all of you so often and would light up when he looked at your pictures that he had on his desk in his office. I pray that you find strength in your Faith to somehow make sense of it all. We will all miss him and will never forget him. God Bless! "

"Within a few days of moving into our new home in Tomahawk, Jim stopped by to meet and welcome us. We noticed during this encounter that Jim had a way about him. We noticed his constant smile and easy manner and we liked him very much immediately. Over the past almost two years, Jim would stop by to say hello during most all of his trips to the family cabin (and to inquire about the snowmobile trail conditions, the weather or the fishing, etc). We did notice that he always seemed to be fixing something and running into town for parts. We also noticed that Jim spent a lot of quality time with his children. Trish and I feel truly blessed to have known Jim and we will miss him. He was truly a great guy. Michelle, Nick, Matt and Marin, we are so sorry for your loss. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Please let us know if there is anything at all we can help you with up here."

"I worked with Jim for the past couple of years at Infor. What impressed me most about Jim was his work ethic, diligence, and follow-through. He was always ahead of the curve, and usually pushing the rest of the team along to move our group ahead, to make the next sale, and to achieve the next result. It was very comforting to have someone like that as part of the team. After reading the obituary, it sounds like Jim carried those characteristics to all aspects of his life. In Chicago a couple of months back, Jim spoke fondly of his upcoming snowmobile trip with his sons. Glad to know that he was able to enjoy that trip before God called him home. "

"I did not have the privilege of knowing Jim for very long; he was my colleague at Infor and I only started working here since last June. However, in a short time he made many good impressions for me. A few months ago we were in Chicago for a business meeting and during a relaxed moment we shared stories of riding snowmobiles; I in Colorado along the Great Divide (while on a ski trip), and he every winter in Minnesota or at his cabin. In fact he talked of heading out to the cabin the weekend after our meeting. He seemed so happy and alive. It is very hard to see someone pass who is so young and full of life. It is rough times like this that I look to PSALM 18-2 and the passage: "The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower." I am glad I had the opportunity to know you, if only for a little while. Rest in peace, Jim. "

Everyone at Infor held him, his intellect, and his work ethic in the highest regard. He loved talking about you all, and did so frequently. I truly can't say enough good things about Jim, or how much he will be missed. My family's hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to you all. I am so sad to see him go, but so privileged that I got to work with him each day. May God wrap his loving arms around you and help you through this time of sorrow. He may be gone but he will always be in your heart and in your memories. He was a great help to me one night coming home from a basketball tournament. My car wasn't working very well and he jumped it 5 times on the way home. He made sure that Jake and I got home alright. We really appreciated the way he went out of his way to help us, but that is who he was. "

He was also passionate, athletic and dedicated on the softball field, a great teammate who enjoyed friendly competition and having a good time with his friends. Most importantly, he loved his family. His friendship will be dearly missed and we pray that Michelle, Nick, Matt and Maren will get through this difficult time, knowing how special he was to so many people, recognizing that he is now in God's hands. Family and friends will comfort you, as the Lord is comforting Jim."
