Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there
I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am a diamond glint on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain
When you awake in the morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circling flight
I am the soft starshine at night
Do not stand by my grave and cry
I am not there
I did not die

Tributes

"I worked at Madison General (Meriter now, unless it's name changed again) on 2E, the Oncology Ward, and I got to know Dr. Carr then. Actually, I was pretty terrified of him back then! But after the death of a young woman named Sherry, I found out he did have a heart, and a very large one, besides. Later, I worked as his clinic nurse at Quisling Clinic for a few years. There I got to know his sense of humor, his love of his patients, his love for his wife and family, his love of running and of Father Tony Carl, and his amazing knowledge, personality, and caring. I stopped working for him when he and his wife moved to Albuquerque, NM. He returned after a while, and at that time I was a Data RN, working with clinical trials for oncology patients with the UW Hospital and Meriter Hospital. Not long after, I moved to CA, where I have lived for 30 years with my husband. I had a feeling that this wonderful man had died, but I didn't know for sure until today. I just wanted to say that during the years I worked with him, he often talked about his wife and how grateful he was to her for letting him take a break from oncology for a while-how she cared for him and loved him more than money. He also adored his children, along with Barbara. He was a wonderful man, a great doctor, a Shakespeare lover, a deep thinker, a good friend, and he had a wonderful dry humor. God bless you, Dr. Carr-I'll see you in heaven."

"I came to know Dr. Carr quite well over a period of 8 years when he became my mother's oncologist. Besides his skill and medical expertise, he always treated us with kindness, sincere concern, and compassion. He was a true friend and support to me when I found myself a young widow with 4 children to raise. He was a man of Faith, and in later years, I would see him at the noon Mass at the Cathedral before it burned and after that at the noon Mass at the Bishop O'Connor Center. He was an extraordinary person who used his talents to serve God and others and who knew the purpose of life and lived it. It was a privilege to know him. My deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones. You are in my thoughts and prayers."

"Did not know him well, but from my limited experience and all appearances, a wonderful person, someone I wish I had come to know better. Still remember his wonderful tribute to Fr. Tony Karls. They met at St. Mary's, where Tony, of course, was the hospital chaplain for a number of years. He spoke at Tony's memorial service, and though that was years ago, I remember it well. He clearly was one with a deep understanding of life and a lover of poetry. If only we had an opportunity to bid him a similar farewell. I also remember and so much appreciated his readings of scripture at Queen of Peace. Rather hurriedly reciting words on a page, he gave voice to them and in so doing gave life to the readings, helping us come to a better understanding of what's expected of us, or at least begin to think about who we are, where we're going, our calling. He likewise was also among the readers at the Madison Diocesan Choir Lessons and Carols concert one year. So grateful to have known him, if only from a distance and chance encounters. Joy and I offer our deep and sincere condolences to his family and all close to him. "
