"I only learned of Ernie's passing today. I only knew Ernie briefly when he lived in Azzurra, but he was always kind and generous and am grateful for those moments, such as brunch at the yacht club, drinks at his apartment and a trip on his yacht. "

"I was so, so sorry to hear the news. Please know that all of my memories of Ernie are fond and I can't say I ever saw him without a smile somewhere. A Hawaiian saying states that the Heavens cry when a loved one passes.. I'm absolutely sure that there was a good rain in Hana on July 9th. Aloha Nui to LuLu and the family from an Mauian neighbor from the Azzurra. Please accept our deepest condolences. "

"By happenstance, I was at Moog Chatsworth (Schaeffer Magnetics) on Wednesday 7/16/14. I was meeting with the employees (recognizing excellent performance) and reminiscing about the good old days working with Ernie and Max on the Iridium program. I was shocked when they told me Ernie had passed. Ernie was a great man and a brilliant design engineer. I was blessed to know him and work with him when I was in my twenties. I learned quite a bit about motors, but also about running a business. He shaped some of my earliest attitudes and opinions. We didn't always agree, but that's what made Ernie great. Thanks Ernie... We all miss you and I will miss you.

"Looking back on one's life and the people they encounter, I consider meeting and working with Ernie a lucky break. Not only was he a pleasure to do business with, you came away with a friend. He was always a great help to our projects and I know the motivation had as much to do with service to his country as with anything else. Thanks for all the help Ernie. I'll bet you have a pretty good view of all the stuff we put up there together now! Hugs to his loved ones and thanks for sharing him with the rest of us."

We will miss him dearly and I only wish now that we had kept in closer touch. God bless you Ernie and your family."

"My oldest memories of Uncle Ernie are of picking him up at the airport and trying to figure out how they fit all those people on the plane. Rest in peace Uncle, and the rest of us can hold onto the good memories."
