Emmett Joseph Kibbie
March 29, 1930 - September 19, 2014

A Mass of Christian Burial for Emmett Kibbie, 84, of Emmetsburg will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ayrshire. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Emmett Joseph Kibbie was born March 29, 1930, on the family farm near Ayrshire, the son of Joseph and Gertrude (McGarvey) Kibbie. He attended Booth Township Country School, Ayrshire Catholic High School, and he was a 1948 graduate of Ayrshire Consolidated Schools. Following his education, Emmett was drafted into the United States Army where he served during the Korean War.

On June 7, 1958, Emmett was united in marriage to Memphis Quail in Spencer, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm near Ayrshire. Emmett farmed and later drove truck for Cornpatch Express/Firkins Truck Line.

Emmett was a member Holy Family Catholic Church and a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ayrshire. He was also a member of the Ayrshire American Legion Post #173 and later Emmetsburg V.F.W. Post 2295 where he enjoyed playing cards, working fish fry's and serving omelet breakfasts. Some of his favorite pastimes were farming with his son, trucking and visiting with friends. More than anything, Emmett treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren.

On Friday, September 19, 2014, Emmett passed away at the Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg.

Emmett was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Maxine; two sisters: Alice Mae Gulbranson and Marge Felton; and a brother, Richard "Dick" Kibbie.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Memphis; daughter, Shelley McCutchen (Shannon) of Lathrop, MO; two sons: Joe Kibbie (Linda) of Laurens and Scott Kibbie (Kim) of Emmetsburg; seven grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Emmetsburg V.F.W. Post #2295, Ayrshire American Legion #173 or the Lakeside Lutheran Home.

You learn, though, to share with your kids what your parents didn't share with you.
