Rose M. Scanlan
May 14, 1944 - December 19, 2014

McFarland- Rose M. Scanlan, age 70, died Friday, December 19, 2014 at Agrace HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. She was born in Fennimore on May 14, 1944, the daughter of Charles and Luella (Haas) Scanlan. Rose resided in Madison from 1962 until 2010, and in McFarland from 2010 until 2014. She was a devout member of the Catholic Church in Madison, and was an active member of Christ the King Parish in McFarland. Rose worked at the WI DNR for 33 ½ years. She retired May 14, 1999. Rose volunteered at the McFarland Food Pantry and for the American Red Cross. She enjoyed travelling, along with spending time with family, knitting and reading. Rose was a very caring and compassionate person. If anyone needed help she was ready to go help them. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Rose is survived by a lifelong friend, Dorothy Suhr of McFarland; two brothers, Leo (Sandy) Scanlan of Benton and Bernard (Sandy) Scanlan of Fennimore; sister-in-law, Patricia Scanlan of Fennimore; nephews, Michael (Mary) Scanlan of Fennimore, Charles (Betty) Scanlan of Stitzer, Stephen (Barb) Scanlan of Fennimore, Timothy (Amy) Scanlan of Fennimore, David (Angela) Scanlan of Parkersburg, IA, John Scanlan of Benton; nieces, Susan (Kevin) Ward of Benton and Mary (Scott) Nacey of Menomonie; nephew, Jeffery (Tammy) Scanlan of Eau Claire; niece, Kathy (Darren) Kreul of Fennimore; nephews, Jasen Scanlan and Kasey Scanlan of Fennimore; niece, Kari (Max) Needham of Marion, IA; nephew, Jeron (Kelsey) Scanlan of Oregon; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Paul and Leonard Scanlan. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 960 Jefferson Street, Fennimore. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Cress Funeral Home in McFarland, and from 10:00 AM until the time of services in the church hall on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Parish, American Cancer Society, or Agrace HospiceCare Inc. The family would like to thank the overwhelming number of visitors, cards and flowers Rose received while at Agrace HospiceCare Center, and also the wonderful care and concern of all of the staff at Agrace. She was so kind to me when I first started working in Madison right out of high school back in 1966. I rode with her to work at Hill Farms State Office building although I worked in DILHR and she with DNR. Yes, she will be sadly missed but forever in our hearts!"
