Richard James Jones
November 10, 1934 - November 3, 2009

Mr. Richard James Jones, 74, of New London and formerly of Pella, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at his home.

Mr. Jones was born November 10, 1934 at the family home in Pella, the son of James J. and Hattie H. Hols Jones. On November 6, 1982, he married Wilma Wilson Long in Waterloo. He attended high school in Pella and the National Meat Cutting School in Toledo, Ohio. He owned and operated Ulrich Meat Market in Pella and Jones Fine Meats in Knoxville. He enjoyed woodworking and yardwork, collected clocks, and researched his family history. He was a member of the Marion Avenue Baptist Church in Washington, Iowa. Mr. Jones was a Navy veteran.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of New London; one daughter, Roxanne (Galen) Van Zee of Montezuma, Iowa; one son, Vincent (Penny) Jones of Pella; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret (Duane) Lane of Van Meter, and Jackie Jones of Detroit, Michigan; and two sisters-in-law, Anita Jones of Knoxville and Darlene Jones of Pella. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Earl and Don, and one nephew Max.

Funeral services for Mr. Jones will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday November 7 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Larry Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery, New London. Visitation will begin after 1:00 PM, Friday, November 6 at the Chapel, with the family greeting friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A memorial have been established to the Marion Avenue Baptist Church, Washington, Iowa.
