In loving memory of

Sarah McDonald Maynard
January 11, 1927 - February 3, 2015

Sarah Alice (McDonald) Maynard, of Hollywood, Florida passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, February 3, 2015. She was 88 years of age.

Born in Logan, West Virginia on January 11, 1927, daughter of Cush and Kate (Taylor) McDonald. Raised and educated in Logan, West Virginia, Mrs. Maynard graduated from Nursing School.

In 1958, she and her family moved to Hollywood, Florida. Sarah loved the Lord. She was an early member of First Baptist Church of West Hollywood under the leadership of founding pastor, Dr. ER Bowers, and served as a greeter and all around helper for Pastor Verle Ackerman. She was instrumental in leading and growing the Women's Ministry to meet the needs of the church family and community through hospital visits, home visitations, meal preparations, weekly luncheons that fed 100s, and helping those dealing with loss of loved ones. She and a few others were responsible for the kitchen being put in at Baptist Towers. She had an innate ability to know when someone was hurting and would make sure to follow up with them. For years, with her husband Golden by her side, she served as a greeter, hugging everyone who passed by her. Sarah only stopped serving when her health prevented her from doing so. Even though her body restricted her from serving, she was a great prayer warrior. She was truly a soul winner for Christ by word and deed and impacted all those who were blessed to cross her path. Sarah dearly loved her family and friends and they loved her and will miss her greatly but rejoice in knowing she is with her Lord

Survived by her loving children, Jeffrey A. Maynard and Gregg (Lee) Maynard, eight grandchildren, Mandy, Stephanie, Cris, Sarah, Abby, Colin, Kate and Ezra, eight great grandchildren, Beckett, Easton, Macie, Noell, Madysen, Laela, Emma and Speed. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Elmer "Golden" Maynard in 2011.

"My thoughts have been with this family for many years. Sarah was an angel in many people's lives including mine and my mom who passed back in 1982. Sarah has been there for me ever since. Although I didn't get to see her often, I certainly loved & missed her dearly. I know she is up in heaven reunited with her wonderful husband and friends who have already gone to be with God. Jeff, I admire all you did taking care of your parents."

"Please accept my condolences for your loss. There is no worse pain then losing a loved one to death, I also want to share with you the hope that we find in the following Bible verses. God promise in Isaiah 25:8 these comforting word, "He will swallow up death for ever, and certainly wipe the tears from all faces. The Bible also says that God will wipe away the tears from our eyes and death will be no more, neither mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away (Rev. 21:3, 4). What great joy to be able to live forever without the fear of losing our loved ones again. It shall be as he has promise, for God can not lie, Titus 1:2. "

Fred Hunter Memorial Services wrote on Feb 10, 2015:

"Please accept my sincere condolences. During this time of great loss may you find comfort in fellow family members and friends. Acts 24 : 15 provides a hope for the future. It tells us, " There is going to be a resurrection. " Until this future promise is fulfilled may reflecting on it provide you with strength and peace to comfort you during this very difficult time. "

"There was never a Sunday that didn't go by while we were at First Baptist of West Hollywood that I didn't receive a hug and words of encouragement from this Godly woman. Will always remember her and Golden for their loving Christian walk and the blessing she was to Linda and me. She will be missed. "

"Bud and I send our love and heartfelt sympathy to the Maynard family in the earthly loss of our dear friend and sister in Christ, Sarah Maynard. What a precious friend and prayer warrior she has been in our lives. We are so grateful to know that she is now among that great cloud of witnesses that is encouraging each of us on God's earth to purposely abide in Jesus Christ, to receive His love, rejoice in it, and release His love to others. Sarah has left us a legacy of the sweet fragrance of Jesus Christ! Thank You, Father God, for the beautiful work you did in her life! "

"I remember Sarah from the early days at FBC,, the 50's & 60's when I was active there - I moved away but my parents, Ray & Jean Stafford stayed close friends with them through the years and I would see her from time to time during celebrations. I remember her as SO loving and encouraging to everyone. Heaven is rejoicing even as we mourn - My condolences to the family - such a comfort to know she is with her savior."

"So much love just poured out of Sarah to those around her. I never remember First Baptist Church of West Hollywood without her. The last time I was privileged to see and spend time with her was around the time my Dad passed away in 2012. Veva Smith, Virginia Thompson, Helen Creviston and I went by to visit her. It was more of a blessing to us than it was to her. That's the way her life always was. I look forward to seeing you Sarah with the one you loved the most, Jesus!"
