"My mother"
Mrs. Shirley I. Hill, 83, of Middletown died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Danville Care Center.
Born September 13, 1931 in Dean, Iowa, she was the daughter of Orley and Hazel Mary (Kirby) Purdum. On June 3, 1951 she married Dwight P. Hill at First United Methodist Church in Burlington.
Mrs. Hill was a 1949 graduate of Moulton High School. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Hill was of the Presbyterian faith and took care of the Middletown Presbyterian Church for many years where she was also a Sunday school teacher and attended the Wednesday night group meetings. She enjoyed crafting, making dolls, gardening, and taking care of people.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Dwight P. Hill of Middletown; one son, Steve (Nora) Hill of Danville; three daughters, Angela (Gary) Smith of Middletown, Joni (Douglas) Karle of Burlington and Julie (Steve) Danker of Waterloo; special nephew, Dennis Grandinetti and his nine children of Burlington; 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Wheeler and Mary Stogdill both of Burlington and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, five sisters, one brother and one sister in infancy and great grandson Jordan.
The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Hill will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 3rd, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. David Mixon officiating. Inurnment will be in Middletown Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service on Friday.
Memorials have been established for Special Needs Foundation and Hope Haven.
Cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
