Christopher Johnson

A funeral Mass for Christopher Russell Johnson of Daytona Beach, Florida, who passed away of lung cancer, will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at 10:30 A.M. Burial will be at St. Margaret's Cemetery. The Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home of Spirit Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Chris was born on December 17, 1972, to James and Susan Johnson at Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington, Virginia. From there, Chris moved with his parents to various states where they were employed as educators at colleges and public schools. Most of Chris' education was in the Daytona Beach area.

Chris loved to go boating and fishing, both salt water and fresh water. He and his friends went fishing with his mother, while he and his dad were car buffs. When Chris had a problem with mechanics, his dad was there to help him.

It was difficult for Chris when his dad passed away in 2005. He leaves to mourn his mother, Susan Johnson of Okoboji; uncles and aunts, David (Mentra) Johnson of Bryan, Texas, Don (Ginny) Fettes of Minnesota, Rachel (Bill) Wallace of Odebolt, Iowa, Ruth (Joseph) Lakers of Des Moines, Iowa, Rita (Jim) Adams-Pyle of Milford, Iowa, Tim Baland of Minnesota, Bill (Lynda) Fettes of Estherville, Iowa, Dee Pyle of Okoboji, Iowa, Alan (Debi) Fettes of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Loretta (Michael) Callahan-George of Washington. His aunt Carol preceded him in death. He will be missed by his friends and many cousins.

Tributes

Susan Johnson wrote on Oct 16, 2015:

"Yes, it is hard to lose any child. Chris was only forty-two, but Lung Cancer spread quickly to his brain and to his liver. His father, who Chris missed a great deal when it came to fixing cars, died in 2005. Chris loved to share his talent for cooking, especially his stuffed mushrooms. His dog, Sunshine, will miss him, too. Brian's family will be taking care of Sunshine now. Chris taught Brian how to fish and paddle a canoe. Chris, we love you! Mom, Susan Johnson"
