Alfred "Smitty" Smith, age 84, of the Holiday City at Berkeley section of Berkeley Township died on Friday, November 6, 2015 at Community Medical Center, Toms River, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Secaucus for most of his life before moving to Holiday City in 1994.
Smitty was a truck driver for over 40 years - a member of Teamsters Local 560. An avid RV'er, he and his wife traveled the country visiting all 50 states for many years after his retirement in 1989. He was a lifelong card player, and was a member of several local card clubs.
Alfred was predeceased by his parents, William and Mildred Smith, and his brothers, Bill and Bob. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Arlene; his children, Veronica Geisler and her husband John, Theresa Wilkes and her husband John, Robin Latchney, and Mildred, Maureen and Marilyn Smith; and his grandchildren, Jessica, Melissa, Jamie, Adam, Norene, Vicki, and Christopher as well as 5 great-grandchildren.
Cremation was private under the direction of Horizon Funeral and Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River. A memorial gathering and service will be held from 10am-12 noon on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Deborah Hospital Foundation or Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network.
