Don Mills, age 70, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Okoboji, passed away Friday, December 25, 2015, at Hawkeye Care Center in Spirit Lake. He was born on November 14, 1945, in Spencer, Iowa, to Donald Sr. and Wanda (Birchard) Mills.
Don was united in marriage to Barbara (Dean) Mills on January 22, 1964, in Spirit Lake. Barbara passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015.
Don worked at Smith's RV for 27 years and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and playing cards.
Don is survived by son, Curtis (Nancy) Mills, of Columbia, MO; son, Anthony (Betty) Mills of Ringsted, IA; daughter, Tami (Ted) Woodroof of Spirit Lake, IA; son, Jon (Shelly) Mills of Davenport, IA; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Ronnie Mills of Spencer, IA, Dick (Wanda) Mills of Washington, Larry Mills of Spencer, IA; brother-in-law, Dennis (Esterlita) Dean of Spirit Lake, IA; sister-in-law, Roxanne (Pete) Sidles of Spirit Lake, IA; sister-in-law, Patti Bruhns of Spirit Lake, IA; sister-in-law, Jacki (Scott) Marderness of Milford, IA; sister-in-law, Jolene (Scott) Egertson of Spirit Lake, IA; sister-in-law, Lisa Hurd of Estherville, IA; brother-in-law, Greg (Kara) Dean of Spirit Lake, IA; step-brother-in-law, Sherman Nielsen of Royal, IA; mother-in-law, LeeAnna Nielsen of Spirit Lake, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tom; sister, Linda; and grandson, Douglas.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, January 4, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2016, from 4:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M., at the Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at St. Margaret's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Don & Barb's names.
