" I was privileged to know Roger for 20 years or so. Roger introduced me to the more challenging rivers of the time. He would push my limits with subtle reassurances and clear route explanations, and then say, just follow me. His stern never left my sight. During a nasty swim on the Russell Fork, Roger pulled me out. I often wonder where I would be if he had not. He always had bacon and eggs for breakfast and drove the honda wagon. That's the Roger I will remember. I know also, he was just as commited to family, community, and career. He will be deeply missed."

Robert S. Levin wrote on Nov 13, 2012:

"I will never forget Roger running the Gauley river in a canoe. Such an inspiration."
