Steven W. Serr, 48, Carmel, passed away at IU-Clarian Hospital on September 5, 2007. He was born July 3, 1959 in Louisville, KY. He graduated from Carmel High School in 1978; attended Indiana University where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi and graduated from the Western Culinary Institute in Portland, OR. He was employed by Chartwells as Retail Director of Food Services at IUPUI.
In addition to his love of cooking, he was an avid sports fan with a love for all sports, especially baseball. Moving here as a teenager, he found his niche playing for Dad?s Club, American Legion and Carmel High School Varsity. Baseball was his passion â„¢? The Cubs, his favorite team.
He is survived by a daughter, Casey of St. Charles, MO; parents, Robert and Catherine of Carmel; brother, Robert, Jr. (Dawn) of McKinney, TX; sisters, Sarah of Indianapolis; Susan Beebe (Dave) of Noblesville; and Anne of Chicago, IL.; four nieces, a nephew, aunts, uncles and several cousins.
Services will be held at 4 pm Monday, September 10 at Leppert Mortuary, Smith Carmel Chapel, 900 N. Rangeline Rd. in Carmel, preceded by visitation from 2 to 4 pm.

"I was sent notice of Steve's passing from my brother Jeff. I am so sorry. Although I never stayed in touch with Steve, we played baseball at Carmel together, I was class of 77. I will remember Steve as always being a happy go lucky guy who kept a positive attitude. I also would see him from time to time at IU. Steve was one of the good guys in school. "We are so saddened by the loss of our beloved friend. We have so many cherished memories of Steve...going all the way back to the baseball days at Carmel High School with Kenny, Rod and Scott, the usual gang. The college years, the road trips from Purdue to I.U. The infamous vacations and especially the cruise to the Carribean Kenny and I will NEVER forget, what a blast!! The annual race party at our house, Steve never missed one year. The unforgetable summer night out in the limo Steve rented for the 10 of us, being the usual gang. Lisa and Steve's dance song since highschool, September by Earth, Wind & Fire...which we danced to every time we heard it. We have so many wonderful pictures all thru the years, there are so many memories we will never forget.A true friend, we will miss you terribly...Our thoughts and prayers are with the family..."

We didn't have much contact after high school, we would bump into each other once and awhile and see each oher at our class reunions. Then when I was working security at Conseco Fieldhouse I ran into Steve bartending. He told me about his situation and we had exchanged phone numbers and talked a few times over the past few years. It was at least 10 degrees outside and Steve's battery had died in his car. I called AAA and used my membership for him to get a jump. We were friends from then on! I know that Jeff loved him like a brother and those two together were so much fun. I am so sorry I couldn't attend Steve's services for I was out of the country.
