Mr. Richard K. Leighton, 62, of Carmel, passed away October 18, 2007. Richard was born August 18, 1945 in Jasper, Indiana to Mr. Harold and Catherine Schuler Leighton. He attended Cathedral High School and was a member of the Class of 1963. His love and passion for Cathedral was a lifetime commitment as he served on the Board of Directors for many years. He went on to graduate from Indiana University School of Business in 1967 and became a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Leighton practiced in Carmel where he owned and operated Richard K. Leighton and Company Accountants. On August 10, 1968 he married Anne Feltman Leighton, a loving union that lasted over 39 years. His memberships include the Meridian Hills Country Club and a 30 year member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed vacationing with his family and golfing in Hilton Head, S.C. He was affectionately known as ?Mr. Sunshine? by his family and they attribute all of their ?sunny? vacations to his rain dance. Mr. Leighton is survived by his mother, Mrs. Catherine Leighton; his loving wife, Anne Leighton; three daughters, Michele Pettrone of Indianapolis, Christy Fillenwarth of Carmel and Jennifer Leet of Alaska; grandchildren, Joe Fillenwarth, Sarah Fillenwarth, Andrew Fillenwarth, Nicholas Pettrone and Baby Pettrone; brothers, Alan and David Leighton; mother-in-law, Rita Feltman and brother-in-law, Larry Feltman. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Harold Leighton.
