Jerry Schlegel

Jerry Dean Schlegel, 69, passed away October8, 2008. He was born, July 31, 1939, in Clay City, Indiana and graduated from Clay City High School. He was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Mary (Hayman) Schlegel. He was a member of the Army National Guard and worked for Peabody Coal Company retiring in 1998.
Jerry was an excellent wood craftsman, he made beautiful furniture and children?s toys.
He was a great neighbor, in his north side neighborhood.
Survivors include, Jane (Wilhite) Schlegel his companion/spouse for the last 20 years;
Daughters, Kathy Hartman (Tim)of Hillsdale, IN, Kristy Griffin (Jeff Hayes) of Bloomington, IN; son, Jay Schlegel of Cory, IN; brothers, Robert Schlegel (Beryl) of Brazil, IN and Arthur Schlegel of Plainfield, IN; sister, Phyllis Kincaid (Doyle) of Avon, IN; brother-in-law, Gary Wilhite; mother-in-law, Mary Wilhite; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild and also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends will gather Monday, October 13, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis. The funeral service will be Tuesday, October 14 starting at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary.
