"Junior high school is hard, but sometimes you're lucky and you have a teacher that sparks your interest in a subject that can be very difficult. Mrs. Holman was one of those teachers...her love for the students made learning biology (a required course) so much more enjoyable. She may not have inspired me to become a biologist, but she did inspire all her students to do their very best in all their studies. I work in education in southern Indiana and would like to think that she is one of the people who influenced me along the way. She will be missed. P.S. I graduated in 1976. "

"I admired Kathy as a person and professional. We worked together on many cases involving adolescents. She was a fabulous person who always held my confidence in serving my referrals. We agreed on our approaches and strategies in working with the youth in our community.Since I took early retirement to take care of my ailing parents, I missed the involvement we had in the past. What a shock to read that we lost such a wonderful woman and community leader.Kathy sure lived life in the spirit of God and was such a positive role model. She certainly lived a life of ministry in serving the needs of others.I hope she did not find suffering at the end of her life. She now is at peace. May my condolences extend throughout her family as each treasures their memories."

I vividly remember how amazing a teacher, mentor and role model she was. She always bragged about how awesome her husband Jerry was and how much she cherished their relationship..I also remember her talking about Cat and Jason and how much she loved them dearly. I thoroughly enjoyed having her as a role model in high school. I told her I was considering majoring in Psychology at Purdue and she told me to reach for the stars and to endure in anything my heart was for. On behalf of North Central High School, teachers and students, Dr. Holman will be truly missed and we will always remember her kind and loving ways and how she cared so much for her family and friends. She always knew how to make our class laugh when she paused class so she could take time out to answer her daughter's phone calls or when she told us it was necessary to have a diet coke in class. :) Kathy Holman was a great lady with such a passion for life. She will be missed. "Many times I have thought of Dr. Kathy, which is something that I do not tend to do too much when it comes to teachers I have had in the past, but she was different. I truly loved being in her class. She was always encouraging and open with you. Many times she made you feel like her equal and not and inferior student. Although I was not inspired to go into the Psychology field ( a saw I didn't have the passion that others like, Dr. Kathy , had) I was inspired, to do whatever I was passionate about. To see how much Dr. Kathy enjoyed not only her job but those that she helped and taught, made we realize that no matter what I would end up doing I had to have love doing it. I will forever remember her walking around with no shoes on, her colorful glasses, and her out of the box attitude and look at life. Truly I could go on and on, but I will end saying that Dr. Kathy will forever be missed my many.My thoughts and prayers go out to her family, who we heard about so often. May God Comfort and Keep you all."

" Dr. Kathy as we liked to call her is the single most person that I owe my love of psychology to. I am now a Neuro-science Psychology major at Purdue University, but I was a student at North Central and I was in her AP Psychology course. I learned so much from her, and over the semester became not just a student but a friend. Even during the time of my back surgery senior year, she made the class send me positive energy, and the whole time while at the hospital I was smiling and laughing even though I was about to have a major surgery. Dr. Holman was and is loved by so many people. Her personality touched many and I guarantee that she will never be forgotten. She will not be forgotten especially by every student that she taught over the years as she came in the room everyday with her cup of ice and her diet coke. I can only speak from what I know; she was always there for her students and was always patient and willing sit and talk with anyone about anything. Her spirit always shined, even when she wasn't feeling well, she always had a smile on her face. Her smile, personality, love, and spirit are things that I will cherish for the rest of my life.We love you Dr. Kathy, I know that you are resting in a better place now. "

I am currently a junior at North Central and although I never actually took Psychology, I loved her as a teacher nonetheless. "Kathy was such an amazing woman, on many levels. I knew her as a counselor, a friend, a teacher, and a mentor for living life to its fullest. There was immediate energy and enthusiasm in any room when Kathy walked into it. To her husband and family, I want to thank you for the time and energy you allowed Kathy to share with the students and parents at North Central, which clearly was an act of love for her. Her students adored her. I well remember my senior daughter last year commenting that it was wonderful how Dr. Holman treated each student as an adult, responsible for their own work, and educational experience in her class. She treated them as responsible college students, and helped to launch them on that path. This fostered a mutual respect. She expected great things and they delivered with all their might. She was such a gift to their education as a result. As a parent, and professional myself, I appreciate the experience and example she offered my daughter. I can admire Kathy even more for her willingness to juggle her time, and sacrifice appointments from a very successful private practice to come back into the classroom, clearly motivated by things of higher value than money. She has left a lasting impression on so many lives as a result of this gift. She will be greatly missed, and my heart and prayers go out to her family, her friends, and her students. . "

She helped me overcome obstacles and, even after, remained a friend in whom I could confide. I'll never forget one day at North Central: I was having a terrible day and was walking through the crowded halls when I saw Dr. Holman. She reached out, in passing, and gave my hand a little squeeze, as if she were telling me, as she always did, to be strong. That's how I will remember her; someone who knew what I was feeling before I even spoke.Dr. Holman was strong and confident and inspired me to be the same. I'll never forget her sense of understanding, her passion, and most of all, her faith. She loved God and found peace in his presence. There are no words to describe your influence in my life... Because of you, I continue my love of psychology and will be pursuing it in graduate school. You are the most wonderful person and I will be reminded of you everyday in my education and work. I've talked about you all through college and when people ask me why I am so passionate about psychology, I always have said it is because of you... You saved me. I love you and and will always miss you..."

"Jerry, Cat & Jason,I just found out about Kathy's passing and am sorry I couldn't pay my respects in person. She was such a great person. I looked to her as my teacher, my friend and a mentor. I think about her all the time and realize how lucky I am to have had her in my life. She has had such a positive influence on so many people. The world is definitely a better place because of Kathy Holman. I will miss her."

"Mrs. Holman was my 7th grade homeroom teacher. She was a bright hopeful light in my painful life. I am grateful for her life and brief friendship. With sympathy, Mary Jo"

"Dr. Jerry Holman, Cat and Jason,I am just learning of your loss and would be remiss if I did not express my thoughts to your family. I am at a loss for words! Dr. Holman was one of my FAVORITE high school teachers. While I was an undergrad psych major at IU (1987-1992), I would often run into Dr. Holman in the psych building or some seminar while she was working on her PhD in psych. At times, she would critique a few of my research papers and provide pointers/feedback. She was kind, compassionate and encouraged her students to always do our/their best. She was truly a class act and will be greatly missed.Derrick BarnettNCHS Class of 1989"

"Words can't even sum the grief I have! I keep on hearing my favourite teacher saying "oh kathy, kathy, KATHY!" as we prepared for class! I wanted to thank Kathy for the memorable moments, lessons and inspiration she gave me as a student and a human being. She once said "How to surf when you know the waves will keep coming - BREATH between each wave!" RIP & I promise not to 'stay in the 'know' but the mystery! To you her family, thank you for letting her share that love with us, God keep on blessing you as he blessed me in knowing Kathy!"

"omg!!!i just saw this!!! i can't believe that she's gone! but even as i take this in, i can't fully feel sad because i feel honored to have met someone that really enjoyed life and even though she took her job seriously as my dear friend gersh was saying she really did know how to enjoy hersef. shes one of the most memorable teachers i've had. i just loved how she was always so down to earth and real with everyone. i will always remember her as one of the most influencial people in my life. she showed that there is a way to live life the way you want it and to really make it all work out, no matter happens! and who can ever forget her diet coke addiction! i can't remember if she ever started the book she wanted to write that was to be titled something like:Learning to go to the bathroom all by yourself. because all she would say how she was always seeing women and girls always needing to go to the bathroom with a friend and hardly ever by herself. i had her as my psychology teacher during my graduating year of 2007."
