Thomas Atkins
January 25, 1931 - December 7, 2008

Thomas K. Atkins, beloved husband of Jeanne Wieck Atkins and son of the late Henry and Elise Martin Atkins, passed away on December 7 at the age of 77 in Indianapolis. Mr. Atkins worked from 1952 to 1991 with Eli Lilly and Co. as head of manufacturing computer systems group. Tom was the treasurer of Atkins Desserts from 1991 to the present. He was an active charter member of St. Luke Catholic Church and a former usher. Previously he was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Virginia where he served on the school board and the endowment board. He was a Knight of the Holy Sepulcher, vice minister of the secular Order of St. Francis, member of the Indiana Chapter of Legatus International, Traders Point Hunt Club, Contemporary Club, Woodstock Club and past President of the Dramatic Club of Indianapolis. Mr. Atkins graduated from Wabash College in 1952 as a charter member of the Wabash Newman Club and Phi Kappa PSI Fraternity.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years; Jeanne Wieck Atkins; sons, Patrick Joseph Atkins, Jack W. Atkins (Jo); daughters, Lisa Millner (Edward), and Laura Strand (Gregory), daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Murphy Atkins and eight grandchildren; Thomas K. Atkins, III, Kathleen Atkins, Katherine Millner, Meriwether Millner, Emily Millner, Jonathan Strand, Elizabeth Strand Collar, Heather Strand, brothers; Jonathan M. Atkins, Stuart Atkins (Pam); sisters, Linda Atkins Lange (Tom), Edie Atkins Spain (David). He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Thomas K. Atkins Jr. and his sister, Susan Fleming. Family and friends will gather Friday, December 12th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel.
