"Mark and Tom, I was deeply saddened to hear of Uncle Rip's death from Jim Covert earlier this morning. As you may remember, Rip was my Godfather, my Dad's best friend and one of the very last of The Infamous Frogs. Personally, I was always comfortable using my Godson relationship and did so often when I was in business in Indianapolis and after I moved to CT. I visited with Rip on my trips back to Indianapolis and in more recent years kept up on his vigorous old age through Aunt Pat Herndon. He was a very fine man, a model for all of us as a father, husband and friend. Molly and I, along with Ralph III, Andrew, Chris and Sarah, wish you our best at this difficult time. We can be confident that he is now amongst The Communion of Saints and interceding positively in our daily lives, as he did with such grace and happiness when he was with us. Best to both of you and your families, Ralph"
"You don't know me, but your father and my father (Jack Lynch) were best friends in school and remained good friends until my father died in 1993. Several years ago, I looked your dad up and made arrangements for my aunt, (Elizabeth Smith), cousin and I to go visit him. He was starting to pack for his move out of the house, but he took the time not only to visit with us, but took us out for a trip in his car down memory lane to the old neighborhood. I know my aunt enjoyed the tour, and my cousin & I got to see first hand the places we had only heard about in the past. I was sorry to hear about his passing. I just wanted you to know that it was a pleasure to visit with him and hear about the good old days! Sincerely, Carol (Lynch) Valko"
"I was saddened to read this morning of Rip's passing. I worked for Rip at BHH, from 1981 to 1986. I can say without hesitation it was one of the most rewarding professional and personal relationships of my life. I have lost a close friend and a great mentor.I always enjoyed Rip's candor, guidance, and very wharped sense of humor. I especially think of him every December 7. It always seemed like I was always working for Rip on that date. Every year, he reminded me of the great misfortune that befell a young lady by the name of Pearl Schwartz.. (Anyone who knew Rip well, knew of Pearl).Without a doubt, Rip was a character; however, there was a side of him that few people saw. It was a very caring and guiding presense. In 1986, I was offered an opportunity to work for one of our BHH clients. It was a very tough decision. When Rip had received word of my offer, he cut short his vacation to counsel me over lunch at the Athletic Club. On one hand, he outlined how he would work to further my career to the point of becoming a partner in the firm. At the same time, he gave me guidance on how to succeed in the new company, should I select that path. His kindness, friendship, and guidance will not be forgotten. Mark and Tom, thanks for sharing him with us all."
"Rip was a great Kappa Sigma==an old friend==and a wonderful ,happy Gyro member===we will miss him==I am sorry that I am not there to honor him"
"Rip was a great person who was very intelligent, friendly, a great wit and above all a great gentleman. I met Rip as a member of the Finance committee at the Indianpolis Athletic Club where he was a leading member. Rip later invited me to join the Gyro Club which I enjoyed very much spending time with him and the othere members. He was truely an excellent model for all of us to follow. T he world, especially Indianpolis, will sorle miss him.All of our sincerest sympathies to all the family."
"I had a lump in my throat when Jay Goad called and informed me of Rip's passing. I was a staff accountant at BHH form 1984-1989. I had the honor of being the young buck on one of our clients that was manned by Jay and Rip was the partner. It was in these early days at BHH that I received much of my real education as it pertained to my career and my development as a person through the likes of Rip Harrison. You always knew where you stood with him, good, bad or ugly and the next minute he was your old buddy. All I can say is Rip Harrison is one of the best old cogers I have ever known and this world lost a great man yesterday. My thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends. As for Pearl, we will leave that up to Rip."
"We fondly remember crusty old Rip as the guy who sold us "Old Yeller", Interlake 868, and more importantly, sold us on sailing!! He was one of the best friends we ever had, sailing at ISC was the best thing we did in Indy. We both will miss him greatly. We wish we could be there."
"Mark and Tom, I worked with your Dad, beginning in 1969 with Wolf & Co, through his retirement from BHH. I would like to share three memories of 42 years knowing Rip; Being one of many staff accountants called into Rip's office and told to "sit on the stool and look over my shoulder" while he shared HIS theories of accounting, auditing or tax, and showing me the errors of MY work.Being in a group, when Rip said "That reminds me of a story" and he pulls his cheat sheet from his wallet with the keys words to his latest joke.Receiving the Sunday morning telephone call because "High winds on Geist" required my additional "ballast" for todays regatta.Sorry for your loss, and sorry that we cannot be there today or Saturday; I have been bitten by the flu bug, and still have a fever."
"For the Harrison family,We knew Rip for a long time as our accountant/financial advisor for Indiana Beach. I do not begrudge his winning the Army-Navy game bets almost every year with Shortridge in the blood, a lot is forgiven. I too schooled with Covert and Drybrough and know that we will miss a good rascal. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy. Blessings, Jim and Ruth Davis"
"Mark and Tom, sorry for your loss. I worked at Bagley Hoage and Harrison beginning in 1980. Your father meant alot to me. I can remember a lot of things about Rip, but one of my favorites was when during busy season, he would come by on a Saturday afternoon and whisper "hey, let's head up to Hinkle and watch some of the regional". Those were good times! "
"Mark, Tom and family,We met Rip after moving here from Minnesota because of a referral to him for CPA services. In the process, we learned of our mutual interest in sailing which led us to both a business relationship that lasted until his reirement as well as his introduction of us to ISC and Elaine. We enjoyed that relationship for many years. Through his mentoring and support, I also became a Commodore of ISC. We always enjoyed thier company at ISC events and especially his questions and humor directed at our annual tax returns. His friendship, fellowship, and support are greatly missed."
"Mark and family: Sorry to hear about Rip's passing. He was always a joy to see, always seemed happy to see us kids with his smile and twinkle in his eyes. He was one of the great dads around the old neighborhood. Best to you all, Andy Morrison."
"Dear Mark, Tom, and Family, I was saddened to learn from Andy about Rip's passing. He was just such a GREAT guy to be around, always upbeat and focused on the person in front of him. An excellent teacher of service above self. I will treasure the memories of the Boy Scout canoe trips and sailing the Y-flyer on Lake Michigan. Please know that he lives in my heart. Your friend, John Morrison"
"I was saddened to learn of your dad's passing. He certainly had a full life and lived a rewarding life. My dad saved the obituary for me to read. I don't know if you remember, but Mark and I played together as children. My parents, Nolan and Maxine, were friends with your mom and dad. I'm not certain how they became friends, but I think it was through our moms. Mom passed away on May 4 with alzheimer's, and dad is 91 and living at the Hearth of Windermere in Fishers. He refuses to move to Michigan to be with us. My heart goes out to you during this tough time of year. I'm certain your dad will be missed. Please accept our condolences and know we are remembering you with fondness."
