In loving memory of

Vincent J. Druding
December 31, 1969 - December 31, 1969

Vincent Joseph Druding, Jr., 75

Michael Vincent Druding, 49, Noblesville, IN, passed away March 11, 2010. Vincent was born in Philadelphia on September 13, 1934 to Vincent J., Sr. and Irene Dooling Druding. Vincent was a salesman and a very active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Carmel, IN. Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers David and Richard; his son Daniel J. Druding and his wife of 51 years, Marian, whom he married on May 31, 1958 at St. Hilary Catholic Church, Chicago. Michael V. Druding was born in Chicago on June 10, 1960 to Vincent J. and Marian Wallace Druding. Vincent and Michael are survived by Kristen A. (William) Bussick, Patrick R. (Jessica) Druding, Colleen M. (Jeffrey) Scariano, and Rev. Vincent J. Druding III; grandchildren, Taylor, Katey, Ben, and Zoey Bussick; Emma, Grace and Luke Scariano; and Nicolas and Liam Druding.

Vincent was reared in Edison Park, IL, and graduated form St. Julianna?s Grade School and St. George Catholic High School in Chicago, of which he was an active and proud alumnus. He attended Beloit College, where he played football and basketball, Florida State University, and completed his college education at Loyola University in Chicago. Vincent served as a radio operator in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Bremerhaven and Gelhnausen, Germany from 1954-55. Vincent followed his father who worked for the Dupont Corportation in Chicago. He completed his career as a manufacturing sales representative, a sole proprietor of Carmel Coatings Consultants. In recent years, he worked for Target Corporation and MKM Logistics.

Vincent was one of the greatest storytellers, and he was an avid sports fan, especially of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed telling stories around the dinner table and making people laugh. He had an uncanny ability to remember places, names, dates and stories of his experiences in life--he often recited the starting line-up of the 1954 Chicago Cubs--and it brought him joy to share them with others. In recent years, he spent much of his free time at the football, basketball, baseball, and soccer games of his grandkids. Vincent and Marian moved their family to Carmel, IN in 1977 and joined Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish, where he coached many sports teams, served on the parish council, and volunteered in many associations. Vincent had a high threshold for pain and seemed to have nine lives: he survived a car accident, a mugging, a stabbing, a shooting, and triple bypass surgery. He rarely complained. He could talk to almost anyone about anything, and will be missed for his memorable stories and the gift of laughter that he shared with all.

Michael was born in Chicago, IL, attended St. Viator?s High School in Arlington Heights, IL, and graduated from Carmel High School and Ball State University. Michael worked in construction, in sales for building materials; and in recent years he devoted his life to serving the homeless and those who struggle with alcohol and drug addictions. He was Re-entry and Life Plan Program Manager at Wheeler Mission in Indianapolis, IN. Michael had a passion for his family, for music, and for his faith in Jesus Christ, His loving mercy, and the Word of God. His mission was to minster God?s Word and tender mercy to others in need, to share the same mercy with others that changed his life.

Family and friends will gather for visitation on Monday, March 15, 2010 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Carmel, IN (146th St./Oakridge Rd.) from 3:30 pm - 9 pm. On the 15th, there will be a rosary with Evening Prayer of the Office of the Dead and a preached homily at 7:00 pm; eulogies to follow. Family and friends will gather again at the church Tuesday, March 16, 2010 from 9 am - 10:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. The burial will take place at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery after the Mass. In lieu of flowers, any financial contributions can be made to The Wheeler Mission, 254 N. Deleware Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46204 and The O'Connor House, P.O. Box 1061, Carmel, IN 46082 (or online at www.oconnorhouse.org). Finally, you may go to www.leppertmortuary.com where you may sign the online guestbook. Arrangements and care entrusted to the Leppert Mortuary, Smith Carmel Chapel.

"I heard about the trajedy in a round about way, I was listening to mass at St Pats church on the radio and Fr. Vince was remembered in the intentions and found out after doing a search on the computer. My connection is Vince was my football coach in the mid 1970s. He and my father became good friends and coached football together for a few years even after I stopped playing. Coach Druding was a great guy and I remember he loved the game and could throw the football a mile. After practices he and my dad would talk for 3 or 4 hours at a time. At the time I did not think alot about it but looking back I think their friendship was to help each other heal. Vince lost his son Dan and my dad lost his best friend at about the same time and I think they helped each other get through their pain. I am very sorry for the loss of these two wonderful men, something tells me that they are ok and at peace. My thoughts and prayers are with the whole Druding family. "
