In loving memory of

Madalyn P. Alter
December 31, 1969 - December 31, 1969

Madalyn Pinnick Alter, 79, passed away peacefully at home in Carmel on August 16, 2010. She was born on December 4, 1930 to Mary Grace (Miller) and Paul R. Pinnick in Indianapolis.

Madalyn graduated from Shortridge High School in 1949. She then attended Indiana University and graduated with a degree in Home Economics in 1953. While at IU, she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority.

In her working career, Madalyn worked many years at Sigma Kappa and Alpha Xi Delta Fraternities in their national headquarters. She was a lifelong sports fan, particularly for IU basketball, Indianapolis Colts, and professional golf. No telephone calls were answered during those events!

Madalyn is survived by her daughter, Kathy Hartig; son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Karen Alter; and two grandchildren whom she loved very much, Ashley Hartig and Matthew Alter.

Per her wishes, private services will be held with arrangements by Leppert Mortuary, Smith Carmel Chapel. You are invited to visit the website www.leppertmortuary.com where you can share a memory of Madalyn or sign the guestbook.

"Dick, Karen, Matthew, Kathy & Ashley you have been and still are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. I will always remember the fun times we shared with your Mother, Grandmother as family and friends. Your Mother had the most beautiful eyes and I loved her smile. I know she loved all of you very much. I remember how she sat with me at the dinner at church after Kristi's funeral that hot September day in 2001. She was a calm influence to me after such a sad time our family (and our nation after 9/11) had just experienced. I will always be grateful for that.May God Bless you and give you strength always. Love, Sandie & Ray Schultz "

Leon Broughton & Family wrote on Nov 13, 2012:

"Dick and Karen, we extend our deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother/mother-in-law. It was always a warm addition when Madalyn was able to attend a family function, such as one of my kids graduation parties or the holidays. I especially have a fond memory of how she took me aside when I lost Kristi and shared a meaningful conversation that I won't forget. I think she was pleased when I told her that I forwarded the generous gift she gave to me and my family to the Kristi Broughton Scholarship fund at Emmaus. Perhaps she was pleased because Kristi and Madalyn always spent so much time talking at family events and she felt particularly close to Kristi. Peace be with you.Leon, Cathleen, Jason, Jennifer, Jessica, Jared"

I have many great memories of Madalyn-- discussing sports(I'm sure she knew I had little knowledge on this subject), politics or QVC, and helping with her garage sale was always fun. She made the best Christmas cookies ever. Her photo shows her just as I will remember her --beautiful hair and perfect skin. She will be missed."
