Lyman H Bond
Lived 81 colorful years. The last 33 years in Fishers. To know him was to have a story about him. He broke every rule twice, and under took any challenge. He instilled into his children that no man is better than another, that everyone has different skills. He was full of wisdom, generosity and a life time of outrageous antics.
He was born in Peru, IN to Lyman Sr. and Laura (Culp). Surviving brothers; Milton F. Rochester, MN (wife Donna, nephews and nieces; Doug, Mike , Laura, Karen) and J. Jerry, Ansbach, Germany (wife Donna niece, Laura).
He went to Peru High School and briefly played football at Purdue and on the first Florida State team (they had just become co-ed) before he enlisted in the army.
He was a decorated staff sergeant, and while fighting in Korea he earned two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and the Combat Infantryman?s Badge. Upon his return he used the GI bill to get his BA and masters at Ball State where he met his wife, Ann Bowers. They were married for 47 years until her passing in 1998. They had a great marriage filled with exceptional travel adventures. He missed her every day.
Together they had 2 children and 4 grandchildren. Daughter, Laura Villanyi, husband, Ed and their children Anna and Theodore; Son L.H. lll, and his children Lyman H. lV, and Ethan. After Ann?s death he took it as his personal responsibility to be there for his grandchildren. ?Poppy? was a treasure. However, a 3 and 5 year old had more common sense so he paid them to babysit him. By the time they were 7, Poppy had them driving his golf cart and had them memorizing excerpts from Shakespeare, Kipling and listening to opera.
A born leader, Lyman was destine to be successful. During his 48 years, he was one of the top Stock Brokers in the country, and spent most of his career being honored as a President?s / Chairmans Council member. Lyman was a mentor to many. He was inducted into the Stock Broker Hall of Fame in 1998.
No hobbies but many passions.
Coaching football first at Tab in the ?70?s and then assistant coaching football at Hamilton Southeastern High School in the ?80?s. He was an avid Colts fan and member of the Colts Horseshoe Club.
Lyman was proud of his seed corn and bean farm in Peru IN, and the International Circus Hall of Fame which he made possible by donating the land from his farm. The Hall of Fame was dedicated as a National Historic Landmark in 1987.
He was consistently doing yard work and spent lots of time at Reynolds Farm Equipment repairing his equipment mishaps. He had more enthusiasm than skill
He was addicted to Fox news and Glenn Beck.
His favorite days were spent at Service Club and at Gyro International where his presence will be missed.
Over the past 7 years he has spent quality time at the Columbia Club and The Hawthorns and more great traveling with his dear lady friend Sharon Merriman. It has been unanimously decided that she gave him an extra seven years of energy, and fun.
Also of note: he was a proud graduate of Marian County ?Charm School?.
Thank you St Vincent Hospice staff for bringing comfort to him during his last days.
Visitation will be Sunday Oct 17th 1-5 p.m. at Leppert Mortuary, Nora.

"Lyman and I met through an e-mail I sent to him. I don't remember how I got his address, but we became frinds because of two things we had in common: NFL Football and politics. I met Lyman and Sharan for lunch prior to a Colts and Bronco football game. Something I've cherished and will never forget. I was exchanging e-mails with him just a couple weeks ago, 2, 3, or 4 a week. I'm just one of many who will miss him. Bob"

"Many nice memories of visiting Aunt Ann and Uncle Lyman and cousins Laura and LH when we visited Grandmom. After Grandmom passed, I saw less of Uncle Lyman but he was always a larger than life presence. Like my sister Karen, I have a pair of buckeyes that he gave me. He swore that rubbing them together brought luck. Laura, LH, and families, Uncle Jerry and Papa, I'm sorry for your loss."

"Uncle Lyman was my favorite uncle because he was always so much fun to be around when we were kids. When I turned 10 he gave me a silver dollar from the year I was born; I still have it today in my "treasure box".The last time I saw Uncle Lyman was at my mother's funeral. I will always have a "soft spot" in my heart for him. Uncle Lyman, I was lucky to have you in my life."
