"To the Kish Family: My sincere condolences to you during this time and in your loss. My prayers are with you.Carolyn "Beth" Mosby"
Iola Fabiani Kish, age 90, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on December 4, 2010 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Happiest when she was with members of her family, Iola loved to cook and prepare large meals. Her homemade spaghetti sauce, Christmas Eve dinner, skillfully-crafted bunny bread for Easter Sunday dinner and her poppy seed roll on special occasions were long-time family traditions.
Iola was born in Secinaro, Italy on November 1, 1920 to Pasquale and Domenica Fabiani. She came to the United States with her mother, brother and sister in 1927 to join their father and lived in East Chicago, Indiana. She graduated from East Chicago Washington High School in 1938. She graduated from Hartneff Business College and worked as a secretary until she married John J. Kish on August 21, 1943. John and Iola were able to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary just shortly before John passed away.
Iola and John lived in Texas from 1946-49 and then returned to Hammond, Indiana where they briefly operated their own business, Superior Refrigeration. In 1989, they moved to Indianapolis to be closer to their son and his family. They were exceptional grandparents who joyously gave much of themselves to their three granddaughters. Iola was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and a volunteer at St. Vincent Hospital.
Iola was preceded in death by her husband, John; brother, Carmen Fabian; and sister, Isabella DeBonis. She is survived by her son, John Joseph Kish (Kathryn) and grandchildren Alison Elizabeth Kish, Sarah Ann Kish, Lara Fabiani Kish and Nicholas Buschmann, and nephews Anthony DeBonis (Sheila), George Fabian, Tom Fabian (Ingrid), and Linn Fabian.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 4 to 8 pm in the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Luke Catholic Church on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at 10:00 am, followed by internment at Washington Park North Cemetery.
You may visit www.leppertmortuary.com where you may sign the guest book, share a story about Iola, or make a contribution to St. Luke Catholic Church.

"John -- I am so sorry to hear about your mom passing. I only met her once but wil never forget her. I was over at your folks' house talking to your dad about his invention. Being the wonderful Italian mother that she was, your mother could not rest untill I had at least three helpings of her spagetti, and then left with a to-go bag of Pizzells. For a moment I thought I was in heaven. She was indeed a treasure.I wish you the best through this very sad time.Vic Indiano "

We regret canceling a planned visit back in September due to doctors. Health, weather and distance negate our attendance at the funeral. We are having masses said for her, although she is already in heaven with your dad The Herberts, Joan, Frank, Karen & Josh"

"In 1961 John and Iola Kish accepted my parent's request to be my godparents. I was truly blessed to have both of them for godparents. I will always cherish the years we had together.Iola was a special lady in my life. In 1985 my mother passed away. The following year Iola accompanied me to my church's mother daughter breakfast. This was an event that I never attended with my own mother. Iola continued in my life where my mom left off. For the past 25 years Iola faithfully phoned me every month to see how I was doing. I love her for being there and I will deeply miss her. May God be with you and your family always."
