He always asked me about my parents. I appreciated the way he engaged me on a personal level. So sad that he is gone at such an early age. All my best to his family."

"My family has been a patient of Dr Hibbeln for the 40 yrs he has been in practice. My first memory of him was at his nephews and my confirmation at St Monica, he smiled at me and I never forgot it. My husband and 3 children were patients and when I saw him he always asked about them and remembered their names. When he retired I was at a loss and he recommneded another dermatologist who is great but no one will ever measure up to him! My last few memories where running into him at local restaurants. I was so happy to find him on facebook so we could stay in touch! How often could you call your doctor your good friend? We are so lucky to have known this great man, we will miss this great man so very much! Love, The Apter Family"

He also cared for my late husband who was a quadriplegic and he was kind enough to stop by our house at the end of his day at the office, to keep an eye on Lou's skin! What a generous, good humored person he was - unless you tried to do something for him that he could do himself! We both admired his spirit and his humor. He is already missed."

Our families have crossed paths many times over the years, from the days when Dianne worked for Dr. Hibbeln, to the times when Carol and Barbara babysat Michele and Matthew, and Debbie and Michele played together. Though that was all in the distant past, Dr. Hibbeln never failed to ask about each one of our family members when one of us came in for an office visit. We will see him when our journey follows his.Fred was an Earthly angel, a gentle giant and a man possessed with passion patience and persistence and love for his family, friends and colleagues. On several occasions Fred would invite me to go "camping" with him. We spent hours reminiscing about our life journeys. His mentor in medical school was my freshman room mate at IU. I was blessed with his compassion, advice and friendship. He was truly an inspiration for me. Perhaps his strongest virtue was that I never heard him complain. See you again Fred."

"To the Family:I just recently learned of Dr. Hibbeln's death when I had an appointment scheduled with Dr. Dineen and asked how Dr. Hibbeln was enjoying his retirement. My family became patients of Dr. Hibbeln beginning with my son when he was 17 while in high school. He is now 46! He also treated my daughter( now 40), as well as my husband and myself. We continued to be his patients until his retirement. He even treated my little granddaughter (now 7). She was born very prematurely (1 lb. 4 oz.) and due to her prematurity, cysts would develop on her eyelids. She called him her "kin" doctor since she had just began to talk when he first saw her as his patient and she could not yet say "s". He told her she looked like a china doll. He was so gentle with her and she was not afraid at all. He was a wonderful, kind, compassionate man with a great sense of humor in addition to being a great doctor. We were all saddened to receive his letter regarding his retirement, but were happy for him at the same time. My husband, Harold passed away shortly after Dr. Hibbeln on June 4, 2011, from brain cancer. He was just 68. I just wanted to let you all know how shocked and saddened we all were to learn of his death and wanted to send our deepest sympathy to you."
