Ernest Ebbinghouse

Dr. Ernest Ross Ebbinghouse; born April 4, 1917, died January 20, 2012.
Ernest Ross (Ernie) Ebbinghouse was born in Wabash IN on April 4, 1917 to Paul and Esther Ebbinghouse. A lifelong resident of Wabash, he graduated from Wabash High School in 1935. Following graduation from Indiana University in 1941, he entered dental school. A 1943 graduate of the Indiana School of Dentistry, Dr. Ebbinghouse was commissioned a United States Naval Officer. Ernie served as a dental officer in the U.S Navy during World War II with the 91st Seabee Battalion in the Philippines. He also completed tours at Great Lakes Naval Training Center and Crane Naval Ammunition Depot. After separation from the Navy, Dr. Ebbinghouse married Marian Irene Ebbinghouse in 1945 and returned to Wabash to practice general dentistry. Retiring in 1987, Ernie had practiced for forty two years. He and Mary had three children: Jane Wildman (Bob )of Indianapolis IN, Tim Ebbinghouse, of Peachtree City GA, and Patty Martin (Kevin) of Indianapolis IN. Mary passed away in 1996. He is also survived by six grandchildren. Ernie was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Elks Club and a charter member of the Wabash Country Club. Ernie considered himself an avid golfer and average gin rummy player.
Family and friends will gather at the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, 740 East 86th Street, Indianapolis on Tuesday January 24, 2012 from 4-8 pm. Another gathering will be held on Saturday, January 28th, from 2-5 pm at the Elks Club, 225 West Main Street, Wabash, IN.
