Helen Maxine Kirchner Oswalt

Helen went to her eternal home Wednesday, June 5th. She was born February 8, 1919 in Brazil, Indiana (Clay County) the daughter of the late Jacob H. Kirchner and Verna Short Kirchner.

Helen graduated from Staunton High School. After graduation, she worked as a secretary at the Clay County Court House Auditor's Office in Brazil, Indiana. While there, she met George H. Oswalt, a young practicing attorney, and they were married in 1937 then moving to Springfield, Ohio. In 1941, they returned to Indianapolis living in the Irvington area and raising their family in the Irvington Presbyterian Church. In 1964, the family moved to the north side of Indianapolis residing in the Nora area. Helen and George were married 37 years prior to his sudden death in 1973.

Helen worked for 18 years as buyer and manager of the three Methodist Hospital gift shops retiring in 1978. Later, she worked part-time at Gattle's Fine Linen Store at the Fashion Mall at Keystone at the Crossing.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Crystal Jean Kohn and brother, James Shults.

Left to cherish her memory include a son, Larry B. Oswalt (Janet) of New Palestine, IN; daughter, Susan Oswalt Denison (David) of New Castle, IN; grandchildren, Amy Lovan (Chris) and Emily Farris (Justin) both of New Castle, IN, and Lauren McHale (Joe) of Washington D.C.; great-grandchildren, Adam Lovan, Andrew Lovan, Vincent Farris and Stuart Farris all of New Castle, Indiana; brother, Robert Shults of Los Angeles, CA.

Helen was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was very involved in family activities. She was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church where she belonged to the Rehm Guild, Monday Sewers Group, and assisted at the church bazaar. Her faith and family were her greatest loves and they celebrate the life she shared with them and now her new life in Christ.
