Stoughton- Doris M. Barry, age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Azura in Stoughton. She was born in Madison on September 26, 1929 the daughter of Holley and Alice (Main) Peterson. Doris grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from Brooklyn High School. She graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1951 with a Bachelor's degree in Education. On July 18, 1953 Doris married Charles "Towie" Barry. Together they made Stoughton their home. Doris taught Business Education at Waterloo schools for two and a half years and then for Stoughton High School for 39 years until her retirement. The highlight of her career was being awarded WI State Teacher of the Year in 1975. Doris was a member of Stoughton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed Rosemaling and volunteering at the Stoughton Food Pantry. Doris was a loving mother and devoted grandmother. She is survived by her three sons, Mitchel, Bruce (Ruth), and John (Sue) Barry; and four grandchildren, Carolyn (Matt) Hamacher, Benjamin, David, and Ashley. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and sister, Emily Peterson. According to Doris's wishes no services will be held. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Doris's name to Azura of Stoughton, 1221 E. Main Street, Stoughton, WI, 53589.
