Theodore (Ted) McNutt Englehart was born May 9, 1920 in Brazil Indiana to Ira and Virginia McNutt Englehart and died Sept 10, 2016 in Carmel, IN.
Ted got his pilot's license before starting college at DePauw University. He followed in his father's footsteps, and joined Delta Tau Delta. In 1940 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps.
In 1944 he married Nancy Campbell and continued his education as an Aviation Cadet. Ted flew P-40s during WWII and then flew for business and pleasure until 1995. Ted earned a BS in Business Administration from Butler University. He also became a CPA.
Ted was a successful businessman serving in senior executive and Board positions with Indiana Gear Works, Circle Leasing, Wilson Engineering, Contour Hardening, LABECO, and TM Englehart Corporation. Ted also served on the Board of Trustees of the Athenaeum.
Ted was predeceased by his son Theodore, his wife Nancy, his daughter Nancy Stimson and brothers Richard and David.
Ted met his second wife, Dorothy Hartman Schulz through the Watercolor Society of Indiana of which Ted was President. Dorothy and Ted exhibited their work in several two person shows and have been active in local art organizations, exhibiting in juried shows. Ted was a member of the Indiana Artists' Club and the Hoosier Salon.
Ted enjoyed traveling and he and Dorothy often combined travel with painting workshops. Besides flying, Ted loved fly fishing, dancing, painting and furniture making. He enjoyed sharing his interests with his grandsons. Ted loved working and never really retired, always wanting to bring together another business deal.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy, son-in-law John Stimson, grandson John (Ellen), great-granddaughter Aryl, grandson Theodore (Katie), great-grandson Theodore, and step daughter Ann Trimmer.
Visitation Sept 22 at 1:30 pm Second Presbyterian Church, funeral at 3 pm. Interment at Crown Hill.
