In loving memory of

Anne Rothstein Belkind
January 29, 1917 - June 15, 2010

ANNE ROTHSTEIN BELKIND was born in 1917 in Brooklyn. Her parents, hard-working Russian immigrants Ida and Samuel, taught her and her sister Shirley to have high expectations and standards. Anne's father died when she was only four and her mother remarried a widower, Abe, and Anne helped care for five more siblings. She attended New York City schools, eventually working to help support her family. In 1938 she married Fred Belkind, an intelligent and talented man who worked in the printing industry. They lived in Brooklyn and Queens, helping to care for their own aging relatives and raising two daughters.
Carol and her husband Bob have lived in the Pacific Northwest since 1967. Anne and Fred's grandson, Josh, is married to Shelby; both are science teachers in Wenatchee and Anne's great-grandson, Hazen Maxwell Robins, was born in 2009. Anne's other daughter, Pat, lives with Jeff in New Jersey; they have a grown daughter, Stacey.
Anne was employed for many years by the NY Department of Public Assistance and worked as school secretary for Grover Cleveland High School in NYC. Although she retired in 1980, she continued as a volunteer. When she left NY, she volunteered in Florida, Israel and in Seattle at Children's Hospital.
After Fred died in 1986, Anne moved to a condo in Delray Beach, Florida, spending summers in Seattle. Anne travelled extensively and attended many Elderhostels, enjoying music and theater in particular. She loved to sing. She spoke fluent Yiddish. Anne (and Fred when he was alive) lived every summer since 1968 in Seattle, housesitting or living with Carol and Bob but when Anne needed more help later she sold the Florida condo and moved into University House Assisted Living close to Carol and Bob. She kept in close touch with relatives and friends all over the country until dementia made it difficult. She remained an optimist with a beautiful smile until the end. Her final and loving home for more than two years was Klinegalland Home in Seattle to which remembrances can be sent.
