Bobby, (Robert) Dunn went home to be with his Lord and Savior, August 11, 2015. Bob was born April 2, 1923 in Andalusia, Alabama to James Gee and Myrtle Godbold Dunn. Bob received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1945. After graduating from Annapolis, he served in the Navy on the USS Duluth", a light cruiser. He served for 5 years. He then joined the Boeing Company where he worked for 40 years. He joined Boeing as an electrical designer on the B- 50 program. He was assigned to the BOMARC program in 1953 and was responsible for the development of the ground guidance system. In 1956 he became manager of the Boeing office at MIT- Lincoln Laboratories in Lexington, Massachusetts, and was responsible for integrating the BOMARC missile into SAGE. In 1960 he was responsible for all avionics for the TFX program. Bob graduated from the Sloan Fellowship program at Stanford University in 1964. He then accepted the position of Chief Engineer-Electrodynamics Technology, and was responsible for all mechanical work and technical activities in the field of avionics. He served as Director of the 747 Technology from 1976 to 1983. In late 1983 he became Director of Avionics Engineering Design, and was responsible for the direction of all commercial program avionic design functions which included flight management systems, software engineering, and flight deck design, where he served until he retired in 1988.
Bob and Esther were fortunate to travel to Hong Kong, Europe and Africa. He was a man of integrity and principle, worked very hard, and loved working for the Boeing Company. When he retired, he and his wife Esther and their cat Skagit, traveled the U.S. in their motorhome many times, enjoying life. He loved to golf, fish, cook, and spend time with his family. He loved the "fishing trips" and golf outings with his grandsons, David and Jeffrey. He liked to putter around the house, designing and constructing and fixing things! Bob and Esther spent their winters at their condo in Rancho Mirage, CA which they enjoyed immensely.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 57 years, Esther Sletvold Dunn, his brother James Gee Dunn Jr., and his twin sister Betty Singletary. He is survived by his daughter, Laurelon and her husband Ronald Plienis and his 2 grandsons, David Plienis and Jeffrey Plienis.
