Valton HALL

94, died on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2008. He was born Aug 9, 1914 in Marlow, OK, the son of Clarence Coney Hall and Millie Hash. He graduated High School in Electra, TX.

Valton graduated from Texas A&M University in 1938 with a degree in Agronomy. He was a Ross Volunteer and was crowned King Cotton his senior year.

After graduating he served his country in the farming industry. He was an administrator for the CCC in Franklin, TX and taught GI School after WWII.

He married Mary Marjorie Weber, Margie November 4, 1938, with whom he shared 68 years of love and marriage until her death in June 2006.

Valton is survived by his daughter, Marganna King and her husband, Raymond King, of Edmonds, WA. His son, John Valton Hall, preceded him in death in June 2002. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren, Charles E Dye and his wife, Ann, of Bozeman, MT, and Adelaide El Zein and her husband, Hussein, of Edmonds, WA and 4 great-grandchildren, Eimanne & Hassan El Zein, Colm & Maeve Dye; brother, Clarence Hall of Arlington, TX, a sister Greta Eller of Burleson, TX.; brother-in-law, Lance Weber of Austin TX; nephew, Tom Hall of Thoreau, NM and niece, Bev Hissett of Denver, CO. His beloved cat, Pippin, also survives him.

Valton was a farmer and rancher in the Brazos River area, Calvert, TX until 1965. He and Margie moved from Texas to Capitan, NM home of Smokey, the Bear in 1962. He purchased the 4800 acre Spires Ranch and was one of the first developers in the Capitan area, remaking the ranch into residential, multi-family and commercial properties. For many years Valton was very active in the Lincoln County Community. He served on the Capitan City Council for many terms and was Mayor of Capitan for 2 terms beginning in 1968. In and around Ruidoso, NM he developed both vacant and improved properties. Valton also developed a 40-acre tract in the Alto area where he built La Junta Guest Lodge, a well-known guest lodge that is still in operation today. He also served on the Ruidoso and Alto water board, Eagle Creek Water Association, for many years.

With his wife by his side, Valton was a self-made man. Not only a successful businessman, he also had time for his church, the Episcopal Church of the Holy Mount in Ruidoso. He water skied in Texas, snow skied in New Mexico, was more bogey than birdy on the golf course but always loved the game, and played a serious game of bridge anytime he could find a foursome. In November of 1995, he & Margie moved to Manor Park, a retirement community in Midland TX. With his advancing age and wanting to be near family, he had recently moved to Mountlake Terrace, WA where he died. We who knew him will miss him dearly.

A Memorial Service will be held at Evergreen Washelli Chapel, Seattle, WA, Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008 at 4:00 PM. Services in Ruidoso, NM and Calvert, TX will be held in June, 2009. Those services dates and times will be announced at a later time.

Memorials suggested to Lone Star SPCA, PO Box 50426, Midland TX. 79710; or a charity of choice. Please sign an on-line guest book at washelli.com

Michael Andrew Eller wrote on Mar 18, 2009:

"Dear Marganna, I was sorry to hear of the passing of your father, the uncle I hardly knew. The only times I remember seeing him and Margie were in New Mexico when I was a child visiting with my parents. He told me he would teach me to snow ski if I returned. I never did. To this day I deeply regret not becoming familiar with Uncle Valton and learning to ski from him. Many years later I finally had the opportunity to learn to ski at age forty and since have been a strong and avid downhiller. But not a single time has passed on the slopes that I haven't thought of Uncle Valton and 'What if?'. My condolences, Andy Eller"
