"Mike: rememberances from 1966 to 1978, our younger formative years. Here's a short list of the things you introduced me to (not in any particular order): Mike's Chili, The Buckaroo Tavern, Lin Yens, Sun Ya, Three Crabs, Sequim, Olympia Brewing Co., San Francisco (don't call it Frisco), Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Tahoe, Truman Capote, Larry Flynt, The Green Parott Theater, Paris Theater, Apple Theater (beginning to see a pattern?), artichokes, clams, oysters, The Tenderloin District, how to fake a Mick Jagger impersonation, how to successfully fill an inside straight, how to bluff a hand, how to gracefully fold a hand, Bolo String Ties, Stillbrook Fine Spirits, how to successfully fill expensive liquor bottles with the cheaper stuff, Nash Rambler, Midnite Rambler, UW Hub, wild car rides to nowhere, Hattie's Hat, homemade ice cream, Herfies, Dick's, Tiki Hut. I miss you... "

"Just a note from a 'Viking Tavern-Whidbey Island-Ballard Buddy': Mike was an intellectual labyrinth, music encyclopedia, alcohol afficiando, wierd wedding attendee (ours) with a laugh that spread like H1N1. "Deadheads Rule, others drool!""

Jim Miller wrote on Apr 1, 2010:

"Crazy Guy, no doubt about it. On the flip side never had a mean bone in his body. It was a pleasure to cross paths with him back in the day. Variety adds it's spice to life and Mike was very spicey. Adios Amigo. "

Tina Garreis wrote on Apr 1, 2010:

" My heart aches for the Jolly, Bach and Swinehart families. Michael had a larger than life personality that had more facets than a diamond. Sort of a diamond in the rough if you will. He could be gregarious, insulting, loving, irritating, silly and studious. He could be gentle, yet obnoxious, extremely polite and yet he tought me all the profanity i've ever known. To know him was to love him, even from afar. Mike loved his city with it's diverse people. He knew more taverns and restaurants as well as their staff and regulars by name. He was always true to himself and shared his opinions honestly with everyone. For an individual with such a simple name, Mike was a big teddy bear with enormous complexity who shall be missed forever. My only concern is that he opens his mouth wherever he is and says "I've been kicked out of worse places than this!" Godspeed Michael. We have all been blessed by knowing him. "
