Dornis C. "Bud" Morin Jr.
October 9, 1923 - November 17, 2016

Madison - Dornis C. "Bud" Morin Jr, age 93 passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2016 with his loving family by his side. He was born on October 9, 1923 in Bad Axe, Michigan, the son of Dornis C. Sr and Mary Edith (Dunster).

In 1941, Bud graduated from Thomas M. Cooley High School in Detroit, Michigan. Bud proudly enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and served in the Philippine Islands with the 3169 Signal Service Battalion. He received his BSE degree in 1948 and his MSE in 1952 from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. On June 26, 1948, Bud was united in marriage to E. Mattie Chaban at the family home in Detroit, Michigan. In 1964, Bud earned his PhD from UW-Madison. Bud worked at the Synchrotron Radiation Center as an accelerator physicist for over 20 years until his retirement in 1993. Bud was a lifelong amatuer radio operator, call sign K9ZT, a member of the Four Lakes Amatuer Radio Club and the Madison DX Club; Bud was very proud that all three of his children followed him in becoming amatuer radio operators,s too. He was also a member of the UW-Madison Hoofer's Club. Bud's deepest passion was sailing. Bud enjoyed camping with his family, traveling the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the area around Traverse Bay, and also Door County, WI. Once retired, Bud and Mattie enjoyed traveling with educational travel groups across the United States and to Europe, visiting England and Scotland a number of times. They also looked forward to annual trips to sail around the Caribbean with close friends from the Hoofer's Club. Bud touched many hearts and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bud is survived by his two children; James Morin and Ellen Morin, daughter-in-law; Patti Morin, three grandchildren; Alexia Dalton, Jesse Dalton and Ryan Morin and a dear family friend; Willy Zimmerman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife E. Mattie Morin, a son Michael Morin, and two sisters Doreen Morin and Barbara Origer.

Funeral services will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 E. Washington Ave., Madison, on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 6:00 pm. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4:00 pm until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Bud to the American Lung Association, 13100 W Lisbon Rd # 700, Brookfield, WI 53005.

The family wants to extend a special thank you to Dr. Gina Giazzoni, his palliative care doctor, and the nurses of the cancer care unit at Meriter Hospital for all their care, love and compassion given to Bud.
