Robert "Bob" W. Sanford, Sr.; 85, of Davie, Florida, formerly of Miami, Florida passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 8, 2016.
He was born in Greencastle, Indiana on September 6, 1931, one of five children born to Clarence and Jennie (McCurry) Sanford. At the age of 7, he and his family moved to Miami where he was raised and educated. Following high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during the Korean War.
Before his retirement, he was a computer engineer with the Miami Herald Newspaper for more than 40 years, retiring in 1997. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed golfing, fishing, photography, building model airplanes, and going to the shooting range.
Survived by his loving children, Judy Sanford Cargill, Janet Sanford Guerra, Robert W. Sanford, Jr. and his wife, Manja Rippen Sanford; five grandchildren: Kasey Cargill, AJ Guerra, Chris Guerra, Victoria Sanford and Katherine Sanford; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four siblings, Harold "Hopper" Sanford, Violet Chesser, Dorothy Managan and Hazel Pope,
A Celebration of Robert's Life will be held on December 17, 2016 2:00 P.M. at Fred Hunter's University Drive Memorial Home, 2401 South University Drive, Davie. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
